Well written rhymed and timed. The horrors of war will unfortunately always be with us, especially when some view suicidal sacrifice as a ticket to heaven.

We hope that lessons have been learned that all war brings is pain
and hope for the prevention of it happening again.

It's a nice wish, but the Bible tells a different story. It says there shall be war and rumors of war until the end of time.

A nicely written piece reminding us of the trauma and sadness that wartime brings, and leaving us with wonderful ending and the thought of:
"hope that lessons have been learned that all war brings is pain
and hope for the prevention of it happening again."

Rhyming and rhythm of the stanzas work well. Great job and much luck in the contest!

This is very descriptive in all lines. Good job with the rhymes, too. It is easy for readers to picture these events that were so horrible for all. Have we learned anything? Seventy-eight years & yet wars go on. Best wishes. Jan

War is horrible and war is hell.
But sometimes war is unavoidable and necessary to curtail the spread of evil in the world for the betterment of all.
How many more Jews, blacks, mentally handicapped and infirmed would have died had the US not gotten involved in WWII?
Ten thousand?
A million?
One more is far too many...
Nice writing, Jenintorre.

Wouldn't that be wonderful? If we could ever learn from the past? Humans sure don't seem to though, as if they must experience it first-hand. This is awesome. Blessings...

    Thank you Dolly, my friend.x

P.s. This poem was inspired by Maureen Lee, a Liverpool author. Many of her books are family sagas that
Often take place around the time of the first and Second World War. She is a brilliant writer. I love her books.

A very well-written poem about war that brings more pain than solutions to the world. The soldiers that not lost their lives come back with physical and mental scars for life.
