Hi,
I don't usually review stories, as I'm afraid of missing something, I know there's more to it than spag..but you're always kind and read my poetry...so I hope you don't mind if I just say how much I enjoyed reading your story...I had a similar type of medical emergency, and since you are a medical person you will know what "acute diverticulitis" is...I had surgery to remove part of the colon, then the wound (which was stapled)...opened up and I had to go back into the operating room to be stitched...later a hernia developed, which was operated on, then it came back, and the mesh became infected...I know exactly how you must have felt...alone is the word that covers it well...my digestive system is still out of whack, and the last surgery to correct the hernia, was 3 years ago...I'm glad you're okay now...I will have to say, though, that the story made me laugh ..out loud...I'm still chuckling to myself...the story was well written, I read it straight through without a moment's hesitation...Thanks for sharing this with us...now I know I'm not alone with the kind of surgery that I would never wish on anyone.,. Be well, my friend...Blessings, always..

Warmly,
Victoria

Hi Victoria, Nice to have a partner in crime! Hospitals are notorious for infection. A bug is always around. I'm glad you had a laugh, if we were all serious, there would be no fun. I've got to have another scan next week; never ending story. Being in a wheelchair one gets flab and prone to hernia's I just pray no more surgery please God. Over 35 yrs. I have had 30 operations! We will get our own back one day. Same as you, I hardly read stories, takes too long, poems bring site dollars in. Love, Kay XX

Hi there;
I'm so sorry to hear about your hospital stay. It sounds like you were treated horribly, and I'm sure the standard of healthcare has come down quite a bit since you were working.

We can only pray things will get better,

~patty~

HI Kace, sad as it is...there are a lot of hospitals like that one....every time my sister goes into one...she comes out with and infection that takes months to heal...years ago you always saw people mopping the rooms...cleaning the bathrooms...everyday...they gave baths everyday...clean sheets...not any more...in any hospital...there's blood on the floors...stains on the sheets...I hate hospitals now...everytime I go in one...I goes home and throw all my clothes in the wash...and take a hot shower...times have gone to the worse...so sad...so sorry my sweetie pie you had to go through that...but so glad you are going to be able to go swinging...your story is very well told you...and your picture speaks for itself...love you Linda xxoo

Hello Possum, Glad to know (in a way) that all hospitals are the same (except the little country) it is scary because you are in their hands - literally you life is on the line! Thanks for reading pettle - pie XXXX Much love, Kace.

Geez, Kace but I'm not surprised. I am a nurse also (we don't complain) but this one was 'over the top. I liked how you referred to 'rudeness. That is a precursor to signing out or taking someone down with you LOL. I'm sure that you did a better job at home with your surgical wound than they would've done in the hospital. I have mentored new nurses and they often look at me as if I have 3 heads ;-)

G'day my friend, Yes, nursing ain't what it used to be. When I had my leg amputated back in 82, even my bed was disinfected. Thank you for reading and because you are in the workforce, you would see many things. I did recover well, had to have the wound dressed daily, only in the last week, it has closed and I have been able to swim! Hope you are getting better day by day. Your friend for many years now! Love, Kace XX

My goodness, Kay!! I would have put in a serious complaint, that was terrible. I don't know what has happened to kindness and compassion these days, there is a dreadful lack of it. You were very lucky not to pick up an infection. And fancy leaving you there alone all that time in the shower room! You poor thing. That's one reason I refused to go into hospital when the ambulance crew came to see me on Sunday. But they wouldn't leave until my breathing was steadier, they were better than going to the hospital and being left in the corridor on a stretcher for hours. That happens here such a lot now. No, definitely no hospital for me, and after reading this, it a BIG no-go!! I'm so glad you are back home safe and sound now. Big hugs, my friend. :) sandra xx

My last two hospital visits were the same. I think they just don't care about senior citizens. The Hospital in this small town is a great one. The nurses are wonderful, but the Dr's are pill pushers and we get sent to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City for all serious conditions.Glad to hear you are on the mend Kay. God Bless you. Nancy

Thank you for reading my friend. Small towns seem to care. I was disgusted with the care I didn't receive. Bless you Possum.

K, I really felt for you when reading this story. It was a very honest account of your unfortunate hospital experience. I had, what I thought, a bad experience in the hospital after my shoulder op 18 months ago. Nowhere near as bad as your experience but I was appalled so I complained. After their 'investigation' the explanation given was the nurses were contracted ...this explained the NO TLC and NO care factor!! Not good enough. Why be a nurse with attitudes like that. I'm sorry you had to go through such a bad thing but I'm happy to hear you are on the road to recovery. ~DDx

Hello DD, Yes, we put our lives in the hands of these robots. Nursing isn't what it used to be when I was working. Thanks for sharing my friend. Blessings, Kay.

I am a nurse and I wish I was there to take care of you. The medical field seems to be getting worse, recently my husband was in the hospital and the experience was not pleasant. This is an excellent account of your experience, it would be great if healthcare would improve.

Hello Elaine, Nursing is by robots these days. I felt so helpless, not as if I can get up and walk! Anyway, all good now. Love, K.

I understand completely why you asked if the nurses received their diploma out of a box of cornflakes. I am a Hospice nurse and have asked many questions of the nurses when I am in a home to take care of a patient. There is no compassion in the nurses now days, and that is why I work hospice and not a hospital or nursing facility. This was very well written and an accurate account of how hospitals are now. I had to watch my father-in-law die in a hospital when he could have gone home with hospice. In addition, I want to say that hospitals and nurses are a cold place, heart.

Good heavens, what a horrible experience. How terrible to leave you to take care of yourself. I know what you mean about not bothering to complain since no one was really interested. I do hope you are truly on the mend and get some swimming in, in the near future. Take care and no more medical emergencies! Great entry for this contest, this will be a hard one to beat.

Hello Mrs Pumpkin, Yes, I have been swimming just this week, Oh, the bliss. Hospitals are run by robots these days. And I foresee it will be run by real robots in the future! Blessings, Kay.

How terrible. What ever happened to good old fashioned helpful nurses? The poor have a similar problem. Without health care they end up in horrid hospitals and have to bring a family member to help them in and out of bed. These hospitals don't even have robots.

Our hospitals are in overload with welfare recipients. A few months ago, we had a flu epidemic (700 died) the hospital I was in was closed because it was full. Thanks Mrs Pumpkin. XX
