A nice tribute to the Fallen. Just two days ago, there was a mass shooting in Texas. It seems to happen more and more these days. I would say a very timely poem, but nowadays it seems that could be anytime.

Yes, Elizabeth, these attacks happen so frequently that any time is timely for my poem. Thank you for your review.

Very well written this poem. Indeed our lives will never be the same. It's a silent war and you don't know what to expect. Danger lurks everywhere. It comes closer and closer. You described the situation very well and what it does with people.Agreat poem, thanks for sharing. Fia

I have now read this several times and, though it fits the rules of the contest, what you actually wrote has a disconnect. One minute you're saying that people are afraid to be in crowds and the next (stanza) you say that they gather to hold hands.

Yes, H. Rebecca, the usual pattern in the aftermath of these terrorist attacks is that people fear being in crowds and at the same time they gather for candlelight vigils and memorials. People feel two different things at once---fear of terror and the need to gather for solace. Thank you for your review.

Hi there

I found your poem so emotive and well written. You have captured the mood of the people and the terror they are feeling so eloquently. Not just in New York but around the world. Unfortunately I can see no end in sight, and yes, we put on a brave face but deep inside the anguish and fright never leave us.

Kind regards, Kaye

Yes, Kaye, I can see no end in sight for these attacks. I started writing a poem about the New York attacks. Hours after I posted it, the San Antonio attack happened. This sonnet contest deadline is March 5. How many attacks will happen in the interim?

Thank you for your supportive review.

Beautifully done, Sis Cat. I understand "The dripping wax upon our skin in-kind
recalls our lives will never be the same." Tragedies shall stun us but we will never take that step forward if we live in fear.

Thank you, artemis53, for your heartfelt review and for your comment about our need to step forward despite our fears. Thanks also for pointing out the line that resonated with you. That line in the middle was the last I wrote in the poem.

Hello Sis Cat. Whenever we are privileged to share a piece of your work, you leave your readers thinking and experiencing something real and not forced but thoughtfully put out there for our conscience to bear witness. I love the way you put your heart into your words and leave them there for all to explore the different textures and layers. Beautiful write about a horrible occurrence. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Thank you, Kiwi, for your supportive review of my work. I always say something to leave my "readers thinking and experiencing something real and not forced but thoughtfully put out there for our conscience to bear witness." This was a hard poem for me to write. It took two weeks, five pages of drafts, and many mis-starts. What clinched my poem was staring into the candle lit faces of the mourners after the New York attacks.

    Thanks again for your support.

Good luck with your submission. I hope it does well. I found no spag in your poem. It seemed professional and well constructed. I think it tackled the subject fully and well. Thank you for sharing your work.

Thank you, Sandy, for your review and for wishing me luck with my submission. The journal will allow me to submit five poems as long as one is about terrorism, China, or the environment. I am pleased that this poem will allow me to submit five of my rhyming poems. I feel optimistic that they, especially this one, will be published. Thank you for your support.

Thank you, Linda, for your heartfelt review. Recovering from these onslaught of attacks. While I was singing and praying in church yesterday, other people across the country were being killed.

My cancelled poetry event was rescheduled three months later, although I was unable to attend that night. nevertheless, a pall has fallen over the country that attacks can happen anywhere.

Yes, Fez, and even when a poetry reading isn?t cancelled because of a threat, fear pervades it because of our troubled world. Thank you for your generous, six star review. I much appreciate it.

SIS,
This Sonnet Poetry Contest entry presents a solidly written entry that engages the reader, is realistic in its reasoning, has strong pure and near end rhymes and conveys a strong message that is complicated. All the best in the contest! :0 GracieAnn
