Hi, Jenintorre
= You're very good at rhyming, with a good rhythm.
= Excellent tribute to what and who a writer is--becomes when they write.
= Good luck in the contest.
Cheers, J (*<*)
Have a good day/evening!

Oh wow! This is so beautifully written! You're so right, poems do have a way of writing themselves. Sometimes those words are just bouncing around in our heads dying to get out and when we release them they pour themselves onto the page. Poems do come from all those place ~ memories long forgotten, old heartbreak, old hurts, happy times, sad times, and everything in between. You've defined poetry and what leads us to write poetry so perfectly. This is an exceptional piece! Best of luck to you in the contest! :)

Comment from For better for verse
I have written poetry for as far back as I remember, and your poem is so very clever, it in just a few choice words it sums up what makes me write poetry. It's all there, hopes, distant dreams, long forgotten memories that spring to light etc etc.
Excellent and well worthy of its recognised status.

I admired your rhymed couplets and rhythmic lines as you described the essence of poetry. Your "masquerade" analogy is very effective. Well done and best wishes in the contest- Joan

Comment from Dean Kuch
Exceptionally well done, Jenintorre. The rhyming and overall message this poem conveys is superbly rendered.
It's oft been said that those who write often--and especially poets--wear their hearts on their sleeves. Having reiterated that, would what we write really be considered a masquerade or a sham? Or are we merely writing our version of the truth as we see it in a poetic format?
Things to ponder...

A wonderful dance of poetic words that tell the tale of the would-be poet and what his thoughts are as he sits all by himself and writes of all his joys, his sorrows, all straight from his heart.
Well done and good luck
