How popular on this site I am, in my opinion any way, might be debatable.
I don't look at writing as a competition. I may not be the best, however, I do make a fairly comfortable living as a Freelancer, and have for many years.
The very best advice I have ever been given, and one I pass on to other writers all the time, is to always write for your own enjoyment.
Nothing wrong with taking a break. It was the best thing I could have done.
Taking a break allowed me to step back and seriously consider precisely what I want from this site.
Now I know, and I am much happier with my decisions.
If you're going on break, return soon!

Hi Brett. I've not been on FanStory much myself lately. I think all things evolve into something different from when they started out. I notice that several people are taking time off. I wish you the best and hope you will decide to return. Marilyn

Thanks. Taking a sabbatical was the wisest decision I could have made. It allowed me to seriously consider precisely what I want from this site. Would recommend everybody takes a sabbatical from time to time.

A good reason to leave, Brett. I am getting the impression from others that FS 'owns' your work and no agent can touch it. Although you can still self-publish, I guess.

The biggest problem with agents not wanting to touch writings published on FanStory boils down to the fluff and cut and paste reviews so many members of this site provide.
Although these types of reviews do not offend writers, they are worthless in helping a writer correct problems with their products.
They are also misleading, in that they persuade writers their writing is better than it really is, and when they start submitting it to real world publishers, the truth hidden from them on FanStory by these "well meaning" (and I use that term very loosely) fluff and cut and paste reviews, are born out in the light and causes their writings to be rejected by real world publishers.
If you would care to, read my Disclaimer I now provide on all my FanStory writings. Believe me, it works wonders and the reviews I now receive are much more in line with what a review should be.
Am I concerned my Disclaimer might offend anybody? NOPE! It allows me much better reviews and that is what is much more important than any fluff, or cut and paste review would ever be.

If you are intending to provide a fluff, or cut and paste review in order to quickly pick up a few Member Cents, I would much rather you did not review my writing. Too many FanStorians resort to cut and paste reviews for this reason. However, cut and paste reviews serve absolutely no purpose and are useless to writers.
I will also tell you that since I started adding this Disclaimer to the end of my postings, I have not received one fluff, or cut and paste review. Those reviews I have received have been much more along the lines of what a review should be.

Taking a sabbatical was the very best thing I could have done.
It allowed me to reconsider precisely what I want from FanStory and I highly recommend all members do so from time to time.
