Dear Brett. I can fully understand what you are saying. I am a Newbie but have become addicted. Not good. Very best wishes to you.

Write and read for your enjoyment. I only post, I don't review usually. I would not have time to read the successful authors who really help me improve my writing, and I need time and a fresh brain to write in the best way possible.
I never regretted my decision to stop reviewing. I learned very little when I used to spend hours reviewing to promote my work. I improved outside Fanstory by focusing on my writing and reading what matters. Plus, I don't see the point or consider it helpful the review of occasional chapters. An editor or beta readers who read the whole thing can do a better job. Stephen King will sort of tell you this on On Writing.
I am using Fanstory to finish my drafts faster, and I have a couple of friends here. I don't post under my real name. I had three agents so far. These agents did not want work posted here.
Fanstory is great if you have lots of time to waste or to make friends, perhaps. But only that. Apart from it, you may end up trapped into an addiction and illusion.
Wishing you the best!

    Thanks.

I make my living as a Freelance Writer, and have for more than 25 years now.

I post on FanStory only those creations I do not intend to submit elsewhere, or already receive monetary payments from several other sources for.

If a wrier does not enjoy what they are doing it is time to move on to other things. There are plenty of opportunities out there.

The very best piece of advice I have ever received as a writer, and one I pass on all the time to other writers no matter their skill level, is to ALWAYS WRITE FOR YOUR OWN ENJOYMENT. Otherwise, why bother to write?

I ghostwrite for people I know, and I don?t edit it. I?m a terrible editor. I?ve been writing full time, but never tried to make money from it. I?ve been lucky to be able to write and do the things I love as I don?t need to work. I had the chance to be published three times, but I dislike work with agents and publishers, and not sure I like the idea of self publishing, even having the money to promote work widely. I had a break from them so I could think about the path I wanted to follow. Fanstory always felt a bit toxic to me for many reasons. That trophy I won once I put it in the bin last year. I ended up coming back for a person or two, and realised it was a good thing, so I could finish drafts faster, if I didn?t care about number of reviews or perfection. But it?s time to move on. I need to get used to work on my own, when it comes to routine of getting the drafts done. I cancelled my PayPal membership payments last week. I pay monthly because it?s not the first I come back and leave. I?ll become standard soon.

Thanks for letting us know. I think it's a healthy practice to take a sabbatical from here. It's a time vortex - and other aspects of life deserve our attention. Thanks for your ind advice and presence. I wish you all the best in your life choices, writing endeavors and personal growth. Feel free to keep in touch via email, and if you want to avail my editing services, I;d offer you a discount rate, of course.

You'll be missed. Hope you visit periodically. When your membership does expire, you can continue to visit as a standard member too.

I've actually left here every time my membership expired the past fie years but each time I do, different people sponsor a new membership - even though I asked them not to the last time. Ha ha ha. Destiny, I guess...

I may take a few weeks break as well...

Best wishes and blessings to you,
rd

PS - very nice art choice!

Taking a break was exactly what I needed to do.

Will miss you, good buddy. I sometimes wonder why I am still on this place but new reasons to stay keep cropping up. I wrote a tribute to a new friend I met on here recently, today. See you later dear Bro.
