Man's strength lies within his ability to control his thoughts and acts. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Good job.

This work has reached the exceptional level

While I might disagree on some statements made and I found an equal number of statements I agree with. I think the arguments made are clear, understandable, and forceful. I know I will read this again...a lot of statements , stuff and things to think about and to ponder in a quiet place. Thanks for a most enjoyable read. Well Done!

Cogitator,

This is a brilliant and thought provoking piece you have written.
Your introductory paragraph draws interest and your thoughts
are well conveyed in it.

Excellent writing style. I enjoyed the quotes given as well as
examples to reinforce your points. This is heavy stuff! I did
go over it again a second time. I better save this one.

"He knows that there is no such thing as a permanent ego and, since the ego is the only entity that fears death, the mystic cannot harbor that fear."

Very interesting line there. Somewhere along life's road...I've taken some wrong
turns...seeking truth, but stuck in my ego...apparently. Thus, giving some directions for how to actually attain this state would be appreciated...Maybe in phase II.

I know you mentioned power over oneself and being true, meditation and:
" stop a thought and contemplate it. The cycle of thought processing goes through several stages -- Awareness, Focus, Analysis, Action and Adaption"

I'm dealing with that "upsetting force" and then you mention "self-control"
which is more than likely one of the wrong turns I took...

Anyway, this was very profound and I look forward to reading more of your work.

Linda

The ego is intended to provide input to your true being. It is not supposed to make decisions. Your intuition will guide you to the right path. Thanks for the kind words and stellar rating...John

    John,

Your work is more than worthy!
    Yes, it seems my intuition
grace from the universe blesses me in spite of myself.

For the average reader, much of what you say will go over their heads. Having studied spiritual awareness, I am familiar with the concepts.i.e: If you want to understand the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."

I think you might do better with an introduction that connects to the reader as in the paragraph beginning"From childhood, we begin hiding our inner self away..."

Ego is very much like a gatekeeper to its perceived universe

This is an excellent paragraph and for me, the essay took off from here.

A shorter essay might be better for dealing with abstract ideas. I felt as if I were reading a college professor's textbook meaning I had to read the material several times to take effect.

Cogitator... I really enjoyed your essay. You have presented me a new concept of who/what a mystic is. I never have thought of Christ and some of the others you listed as such. However, you gave me food for thought. I loved all the quotes you included from so many diverse people. Great job and thanks for sharing this with us. Gramalot8

I'm sorry. I just couldn't get through this. It's well written, but I'm not sure I accept your principles. After a while it seemed dull and a little repetitive. I made sure to read the final paragraph for your conclusion.

As an essay, it argues well, but offers only one viewpoint. I do like the use of quotes, especially the Plato quote.

Well argued but, for me, unconvincing.

I have to read your work slowly, there is so much to take in and analyse. You have taken many quotes from some exceptional minded people, Helen Keller the best example, in my opinion. What she has achieved is nothing short of amazing, a lesson to us all. Ego most certainly does get in the way of life. Well done on another piece that gets us all thinking. :) Sandra xx

Another stimulating and enjoyable piece. This reads easily and can be understood readily. The passages quoted, e.g. from Plato and Tesla, are essay topics in themselves, though I can't agree with all of them, e.g. the Edgar Mitchell one about creating our own reality. I particularly liked your AM/FM paragraph and definition of left-/right-brain differences, and the Helen Keller reference is enlightening. We will just have to disagree about your final sentence - sorry, my ego again!

I enjoyed reading your essay about awareness of life.
True what we should teach our children is to be aware of ourselves and then out surroundings. Our limited interests and level of understanding makes equal to animals. We create needs and and run to achieve it. our egos limit our vision.
thanks for the essay. Helen Keller's words are so true

Hi, there;

thank you for sharing this informative piece about Mystics. I did a bit of a study on the Buddhist religion and I found this subject very interesting.
