Hi (*<*)
= This is a cool write, Patty. You are so right about listening to music while writing.
= I have to have my music going when I write. One day classical, the next day country, then a little Rod Stewart never hurt anyone!
= Nice tidbits in this. Excellent write.
Cheers, J (*<*)

Very interesting and informative. I liked the part about your kids being in their thirties and liking music from the 80's--my kids are in their teens/early twenties and they can sing along with all of the best of the best hair bands! lol I personally do not like to listen to music while I write, but love to when I am working and creating art. Hmmm... Anyway, lots to think about there, Thanks!

Hi, Roseanne;
thank you so much for your time to read and review this piece. I enjoyed putting my theory into words and then finding the research to back it up. I'm glad you enjoyed this,

Hi, Patty. This was an interesting piece to read. To be honest, it comes as no surprise that music influences people.
I believe that it can go a long way to shaping them and their emotions too.
So much of the modern music is loud, angry and noisy. Some music has repetitive curse phrases too. Wise parents need to consider what music they expose their young children to.

Hi, Nicole;
thank you so much for reading and reviewing this piece of non-fiction. I always thought my premise was true, but this is the first time I searched for any scientific research. I'm glad you enjoyed the information,

Hi Patty, I will give you my short theory lolololol...I love to look for new music. Of course I have my old favorites but I like to see what is out there soooooo, whenever I feel down, I listen to the saddest music I can find so I can cry like the biggest babbling baby on the planet. I eat chocolate cream cookies and always have a big white hankie so the snot doesn't become a problem.
When I write however, I write the words and then look for the music and finally the art. Now if I can't think of anything to write, I listen to all kinds of music until one of the pieces strikes a chord with me, then I loop it until I feel saturated and then the words come.
In theory I am an example of your theory being right. Sometimes the process is different but I think this write is definitely banging the gong. Well done my friend. I truly enjoyed this one! xoxo deborah

I agree all the way. Music has always helped me write. In fact, I have certain music I use for certain styles of writing.
Metallica fuels my darkest, most aggressive horror.
Creed will stimulate my thoughts to write spiritual and/or Christian themed stories.
Classical, especially Haydn, will help me write nature poetry.
Whereas 80's rock is always good for some strange themed stuff.
I view music as the fuel in my creative tank. I can always tell when I haven't listened to music for a while because it's harder to focus on writing and I struggle with it more.
I always knew music helped me, it's nice to see that backed up by research.
Great job.

I think you are right. I would listen to movie soundtracks as I wrote. Which was perfect because that's how the story plays out in my mind. I see as well as hear my characters as though it were a movie. Music always helps. Great read. Mary

Hi, Gypsy;
thank you so much for reading this bit of non-fiction I crafted for the contest. I knew I could prove my theory, but I'm surprised at how many fellow FanStorians agree with me. I appreciate your kind review.

I couldn't agree with your article more as I use music all the time when I write I am listening to it now as I write this and would be lost without it. They say art feeds on art and music is a never-ending inspiration which helps my own art. So I know you are on to something. I recommend all Rock or jazz out or listen to whatever music you love and start writing. Your article was great and informative thanks for taking the times.

This is an interesting essay, Patty, on music, the brain, and writing. For me, I like to write in the quiet without any distraction. As a matter of fact, I create a lot of my writes while sleeping. Almost always I write the piece first and then find an image to illustrate it after it's already composed--therefore not an ekphrastic piece. But, I do like music, of course, just not while writing. Very interesting write with no errors that I could see.
I like the idea of writing with your favourite music to aid the thought process. Sadly I find it difficult to concentrate if there is background noise.
As long as it works for you then enjoy

Hi, Freda;
I am getting responses to the piece that is of two minds. There are those who need the music, and those who can't concentrate if there is music playing. I'm enjoying getting everyone's input.
Thank you for reading and reviewing,
