Very interesting the way that you have divided your chapters up, much easier reading. I have a feeling that you may have been influenced by "Jane Austin"? nonetheless, well done.

I actually never read Jane Austin, but I do know she's one of the best. Thank you.

Good afternoon, Barbara

Another excellent continuation. Great flow, dialogue and interaction between characters. I liked the way you breached the subject of abuse and how it might affect Emily. I'm curious to see how this plays out the deeper we go into the story. Enjoyed.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

There are disappointments and problems in all walks of life, but keeping the wrong company company can affect us all, children and adults. But it's the saddest when the children are exposed to the wrong influences without any choice. Thanks for another fine chapter. :-)

I thought you might want to know the results of the life story I was telling you last week. The girl was released from jail. At the custody hearing, the judge granted the addict-parole girl full custody. She claimed to be staying with a friend, which turned out to be a lie, and she didn't even have a car seat. Our judicial system is whacked sometimes. The family who has raised, protected, and offered financial security for the child's life up to now was left standing speechless. They never wanted to push the child's mother out of his life, just some sort of compromise that they could stay in the picture to protect him. As it turned out, the girl had all the rights. The judge never even made her show proof of provisions. As it turned out, she and the baby where on the streets with no where to stay. Luckily, she admitted her lie and the boy's father allowed her to come stay at his house, desperate for any chance of keeping his son around. Now, I'm just hoping they can rekindle whatever they once felt to make this beautiful child in the first place. Seldom does life mimic the fairy-tale world of "Living happily ever after," but we can hope. Thanks for listening and caring, so few of us seem do, or seem to.

I will pray for that situation. I am amazed at how the God, I love so much, allows children to be brought into these situations. I don't understand it. All we can do is pray. I know that's a lot, but still.

Hi Barbara,

You handled this section very well indeed without going overboard with the whole thing.

headstrong can be one word.

I'll get ahold of Jeff - you may get away with this in dialogue but ahold isn't a word. It should be a hold.

Hullo Friend,

I've been away last week and still will have little time to review all that I have in my messages box.

So this is my little apology to let you know I'm a bit indisposed at the moment and can't give the kind of comprehensive review I normally do for your chapters and posts. We have a very dear family friend who has been hospitalized and operated on, so I spend most days at the clinic and sorting out business paperwork.

I know it's a fake five stars, more or less. Please accept.

All the best,

Apky

Hello Barbara. I am enjoying this story. I love how you used Shana to counsel Emily about the dress and what the significance is in the way she dresses. It puts Emily ahead I think in that she is better able to understand the importance already of being respected. Nice chapter. xoxo Kiwi

This captures the characterization. Dialog sounds true to life. Good amount of descriptive detail without being too much. Good pacing. Not much happens, but it's not a whole chapter. :)

Notice just a couple spags:

*

"You need to be patient. Let's go to your room(,) and I'll read you a story.

* Bottom line is(,) Emily will be happy to wear the dress Jane bought for her a

Warmly, rd

Despite this being part of a longer chapter, it offered a complete scene and is easy to read and to comprehend. The only tiny edit I saw is that "headstrong" is generally a single word. Nice handling of various relationships via body language.

Hi, Barb

= Never good when a kid witnesses a parent being abused.
= I can remember wanting to look older than I was. I think all girls go through that stage. Jeesh, I hate to think I'm the exception. LOL Always wanted to be my brother's age, too. A BIG two years older.
= Nice chapter with planting clues for upcoming 'stuff'.

Cheers, J (*<*)

Hi Barbara, a great chapter. Young children and especially girls are sometimes very aware of how to dress. I remember that from my own daughter. Great chapter. I liked it a lot and look forward to what's next. All the best. Ulla:)))
