What a great topic for a Sonnet. What a great picture you picked. This is a very patriotic and honorable Sonnet. Good Luck and Best Wishes in the Contest! Sherman541

really great form in this sonnet
the exact rhyme scheme is very good
your twist in the third stanza from sorrow and sadness to hopefulness is quite grand
your closing summing up couplet is very powerful like the flag itself and ;like the national anthem
good luck in the contest with this fine entry
have a smiley day

Beautiful poem about old glory and how she will forever wave. Good rhyming and word flow to make it easy to read and understand. Too many disrespect our flag and dishonor our country. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed reading your sonnet "Old Glory". You followed the rules for this genre and you chose an appropriate picture, though I could not see how "I" fitted in in the second last line.
All the best.

Thank you so much for the 5 stars! As for the 2nd to last line, I used a little poetic license here, re-arranging the words where the sentence would otherwise be written: "Old Glory, I stand in your honor." Thank you again for the wonderful review - am so glad you enjoyed!

To you, Old Glory, stand in honor, I
Your Stars and Stripes forever may they fly!

On of the things as an American that causes me to get chill bumps and a feeling o pride is standing at attention as our flag is presented and the anthem is sung. Nicely written and good luck in the contest. Patricia

Thank you so very much for the 5 star review, Pat! I'm so happy that you enjoyed... I had never written a sonnet before (mostly have done things on a lighter/humorous level); however, I do believe this is one of my favorite pieces! Again, thank you so very much for a lovely review! Have a beautiful day!

FIVE STARS "Stars and stripes forever may they fly" is such a beautiful verse as are all your verses. Indeed, you pay tribute to our flag and all the things it stands for and all the troubles it has seen. You have my thumbs up. Your sophisticate words rhyme well as you display spiritual overtone. GOOD LUCK contest. Check out mine, also and 2 books in my profile. lol liberty justice

Thank you so very much for the wonderful review of my "Old Glory!" I am very happy that it came out as I had intended as I wanted to pay tribute to one of the most symbolic images of freedom throughout the world - our American Flag! Thank you again for this beautiful review and your humbling comments on my writing! Have a spectacular day! And I will most definitely check your profile!

What a well-written poem, a compliment to our flag. I imagine the presentation of this lovely piece was timed with the recent and on-going controversy concerning "Old Glory" and the actions of 'our' pitiful and misdirected football team.

Mimi,

I wonder if this has anything at all to do with those silly, self-centered athletes who think they are doing some kind of 'good' in some way by kneeling through the National Anthem...? I loved the last lines best of all.

A lovely entry for the contest. Good luck!

You are ever so right! I absolutely got the inspiration from the "kneelers!" Unfortunately, these young men don't have any idea that they are "protesting" the symbol that stands behind our wonderful Country's freedoms and what has allowed them to be able to make millions of dollars doing something they love! In parallel, they are literally "cutting off their nose to spite their face!" Thank you so much for the wonderful review - so happy you enjoyed... and especially the last two lines! Have a wonderful day!
