This reminds me of the scene from Father of the Bride (the Steve Martin version) when the daughter, in her 20's, says to her father, Steve Martin, at their big dinner table, "And he asked me to marry him, and I said yes, and we're going to have a big wedding, and..." And suddenly, we're looking at her through his eyes, and she's five and missing teeth but saying these words about engagement and marriage.
You have the greatest way of catching special moments and relating them in an Everyman kind of way that is dear and warm and wonderful and not one lick sappy. You really are such a talented writer. I love your stories very, very much. xo

Thank you very much for your kind words. I don't know many 3 dollar words so I use what I know. Lol.

This is a heart grabber for me as I have a twenty-eight year old, who's a mom, wife, and teacher. She will forever be my Katie Bear though, and still calls me 'Daddy'. Her daughter is from the same mold and has me wrapped around her finger as well. Loved your story.

It's tough yet rewarding to see our children grow up. Thank you for your heartwarming review. Gretchen

Hi Gretchen. We are fortunate to have our daughters. I enjoy private time with my daughter, too. No matter their age--as you express here--they are still our little girls. Thanks for sharing. Marilyn

That was lovely. Sadly we forget one thing as they grow up we grow older. I will be 76 in a few weeks time, my eldest son will be 56, I find it harder to see him as a aging man than myself as an old woman on the downward slope. Ah, well. So be it. Regards Mabaker

Our children never grow up. I agree. I enjoyed reading. I enjoy early morning walks myself, but during the school year I can't. It's too dark. I have to get up at 5:00 to get to work on time. I enjoyed your short rambling.

Maybe just an early morning rambling to you, but it touched my ol' heart, all leathery with more ridges than tree bark. It gave me a quick glimpse back in time, Keirry keeping the one earbud out. You thinking she was giving you her undivided attention. And in truth, she was perfectly in tune, had you said anything she needed to hear. LOL! Thanks for another enjoyable read. :-)

It's so true, our kids remain "our kids" no matter how old they are. But I'm still happy to say, my girls are much more "together" than I was at their ages, married to two, outstanding Young men. I do respect them as equals these days, they have taught me a few things, including how to respect people. But well done, I know what you Mean, Gretchen, great write and theme, blessings, Roy

Hi, Gretchen
= What a lovely, heartfelt story about you and your daughter.
= This must be her senior year at seventeen?
= It goes so fast, and then, bam, they're gone.
= Thanks for sharing--not rambling at all for. Especially if you're a mom.
Cheers, J (*<*)

Isn't that the truth! I don't care how old they are, they are still our babies aren't they. This is a lovely muse about flash backs on a walk with your lagging behind daughter. After all mom. She's not a kid anymore! She's seventeen! LOL Love Nancy

Hello,
As I read your piece, I kept picturing my daughters, now grown. I see so much of their personalities and mannerisms in their own children.
This made me reflect and I understand completely your words, "Not to me little girl, not to me."
Cherish your walks (and talks) with your (little) girl.
