Firstly, a beautiful choice of art work that coincides effortlessly with your artistically phrased poetic phrases of this Villanella that dance down the page effortlessly with the message how important love is in warding off the different aspects of our world.
Well done and good luck

I'm not much on form, so I can't comment on that. I do know what I like, and your poem is excellent. Adult or child we all need love, and comfort, when the world is to hard to bare. Your poem flows great, has a universal theme, and has a picture that tugs at the heart strings. Wonderful presentation.

A lovely photo, I assume your grandson. It complements your poem perfectly. Then a almost perfect Villanelle with some minor variations in the refrain. I did not know that is allowed.

Many thanks, Robina. I always value your kind words and support. You will usually find in FS contests that strict adherence to the form is required. However, it is not uncommon elsewhere to see slight variations from it. Best wishes, Tony

A beautiful version of the Villanelle poetry. It appears to have met all of the requirements of the style of poetry. It tells of a child's need for love and comfort and it is right and fitting to provide that love and comfort. They are children for such a short time. PM

I enjoyed your Villanella, it not only applies to children but grown-ups as well. ~We all need a cuddle now and again. I smiled at the child's line telling us she can be brave, lol, that was so sweet. Well done, Tony, a real pleasure to read. :) Sandra xx

Ahh Tony, this was a beautiful Villanelle.
It's NOT my favourite form as it always feels a bit irregular to me...but then again maybe it's me LOL

Yours however is smooth and unencumbered somehow with the constraints of the form and my very favourite line when all is too much to bear:

"a simple hug that shows me that you care,"

Well done my friend. You have to wonder what the little people think about this big wide world sometimes and this probably goes a way to explaining it LOL

Hugs P

Never mind the little people, Philippa, that's how the big people sometimes feel, too - though they do usually hold it in better! It seems that quite a few FS poets have lost their hugging partners for one reason or another, ranging from outright tragedy to just plain carelessness.
I haven't written a Villanelle for a while - too much repetition - but this one seemed to work better than most. As you say - smooth and unencumbered - just like me - well, smooth, anyway! LOL
    All the best
    Tony

Ok had to read the notes to be able to follow and yes it is perfectly written villanelle . Now that that is done I was able to read the piece for what it had to say and it is excellently done

Thanks so much for stopping by to review this one, Barb. The instructions are far more complicated than the poem itself, as is often the case! Glad you were able to get past that hurdle and just enjoy the poem for itself! Best wishes, Tony

Superb villanelle in terms of rich language to express its universal message of a person's need to be loved and hugged. Your rhymes are so smooth that they play a supporting but not a dominant role to your theme of longing for connection:

I long to feel your fingers stroke my hair,
for now my sense of self is none too high,
and I have need of love to calm my fear.

I see this not as a poem about a child or lover, but for anyone needing comfort. The poem is addressed to one who could calm fears. The tone is direct and earnest, as well as hopeful:

In time, I'll meet with those who only jeer,
despising any weakness that they spy,
and, when the world becomes too much to bear,
I'll need your love again, to calm my fear.

This is a finely polished poem, Tony, that thrilled me with its depth and craft.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much for stopping by to read this one, Andre. As always, a perceptive review and most supportive. I was particularly glad that you found that it went beyond the picture. Any poems that I put forward for publication have to stand on their own merit without picture support, and need to have a global significance rather than just being an isolated bit of introspection. That's my view, anyway! Best wishes, Tony

This speaks when one feels the need of love and need for love in course of living, particularly when one feels embarrassed, commented and caused pain; I liked.
