It is the nature of a man to shy away if not met with real love and consideration by his wife. This happens every day that he has to pretend to be happy and content but inside he's desperate for true love and fellowship. I consider this poem has an important message to all as it draws out points we all have to think about and get answers from our loving Father in Heaven.

This made me smile and feel very happy at the ending for this man and women--in fact I felt a dramatic undercurrent of tension that the man might just turn in another direction. Stepping away from your poem it almost feels like a short story-I was quite touched by your writing.Thank you!

This is a nice poem about a mans love for a woman who at first seems disinterested but then later returns his feelings. It's nicely written, not forced at all and I enjoyed reading it. PM

I think you've done a great job of expanding on the meaning of "When a Man Loves a Woman". Yes, it's a bit more complex than that piece would have one believe, yes? I think your portrayals are on the money. This is a very poignant piece and I feel a great connection with our humanity here. :)

very good free verse
not just willy-nilly words/lines which happen not to have rhyme form or meter
good story of many years passing by perhaps
man does tend to portray strength even in drought it appears to be an inbuilt inheritance
good to imagine that love won out in the later years perhaps
your characters are quite mysterious
have a smiley day

Ring a ding ding Vic...looks like she turned her tread.
Now, the only confusion is, which direction? haha
I'm kidding.
Looks like you bagged the babe...good for you. I'm sure she was keen all along, you just missed the signals perhaps LOL Anyways, it seems as though persistance pays.
Sorry, no sixual treatment today...I don't get recharged until Sunday LOL

This poem reminds me of the song "When a Man Loves a Woman." As your free flowing verse indicates, he goes through great heights to express such love.
The poem gives the reader much to ponder upon completion. Your poem will resonate with me.
Thank you for sharing.

I admire your treatment of this theme, Victor Touche. Unrequited love always provides a wealth of content, be it in poetry, narrative or counselling. Well written and congratulations on the awards. Your choice of artwork by Lillia is a good one, too, and suits the content ideally. Well done.

Hello Victortouche,
Nice piece of poetry beautifully depicting its theme!
Phraseology is impressive.
Smooth and captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme.
The last lines are especially noteworthy:
"So hope turns his head,
as she turned her tread-
now they both live
for the future...
instead."
