I really liked this, Patty. When I think about writing on paper, I just can't! Imagine the old greats typing away on a manual typewriter or writing volumes after volumes...and we never heard of carpel tunnel affliction with them...

Clever in content, rhyme and thought.

Enjoyed reading your poem, very cleverly written.
What did I used to do when I wanted to write, made me think.
Why of course........pen and paper.
Great stuff, well done.

Hi Patty
I always say, you never know what will happen when you pick up a pen (or pencil). But seriously, I don't have the same intensity with the keyboard as when I'm alone with pen & paper. Same brain. But there's just something about the keyboard that makes writing poems difficult. Now, if I was writing a story, I don't think I'd have as much trouble.
I enjoyed your poem...
especially,
"This pencil seems so useless, and paper seems so white."
(So I take it you find the computer easier?)

"Just me and my rage." ... (i found this line a bit short-ended. Can I suggest,
Just me and my reproachful rage.)

I like your rhymes, "squiggles/giggles" in the choppy verse.

cheers
Kimbob

    Hi there;
    thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. Yes, I most certainly find it easier to use the computer. I've gotten spoiled with the ease of correcting at a touch of the keys!

    I have to think about the suggestion about the rage -- yes, the line does seem short -- hmmm,

The answer is no. We don't really need a computer. With paper and eraser we can write and delete. Whether you write on paper or on the computer the background is always pristine white. With a computer you don't have shavings of any kind.
I hand write all my poetry before I post it. I also save it on a flash drive. That way I have 3 backups of my work.

Keep writing

    Hi dragonpoet;
    I do know that when I was forced to use a pencil and paper, I felt sorely deprived!

    You're welcome. I probably feel more comfortable with paper and pencil because when I first began to write there were no personal computers, just electric typewriters.

    me, too. I think its been a curse to be in the middle of all of this technology during my career - now as I have retired, I'm left wondering it it will all pass me by,

    I try my best not to rely on technology. That is why I still have a flip phone and not a smartphone.

I'm one of those people who believe a computer is overrated, yet I do use them to write my stories. I write them in my head, like a movie playing before I put write them out. I enjoyed reading your poem.

    Hi Barbara;
    I do most of my outlines for stories and books on paper, but I write almost all of my poetry and short stories on the word processor. This past week was a true learning experience, as I found it was incredibly difficult to hold a pencil for long periods of time with my slight arthritis.

LOL! I know the feeling. Twenty years ago, a pencil and paper were all we needed. But now we're spoiled with SAVE and DELETE and PRINT. Progress is a great time saver, but we become dependent on more crutches, and one day realize we can no longer produce anything without them! Scary. :)

    Hi Phyllis;
    I can't believe how dependent I am on my word processing program on the computer. As I sat there with my pen and pencil this week, I felt like I was sorely deprived!

Well, the result was very good even if you didn't have a computer. I think I've forgotten how to write using pencil and paper. The only thing I do that way is my shopping list!
Thanks for your fun poem.

    Hi Maria;
    thank you so much for the lovely review of this poem. You know what? I even have my grocery list all typed out and made a form in Word. So, I need my computer to print it off!

    Hi Rebekka;
    thank you so much for the lovely review of this poem. I really do have a tough time writing without my computer. It's just so much easier to use the backspace to correct and cut and paste to move words around.
