Reese,

First of all, a belated welcome to FS! I hope you are enjoying yourself and finding everything you need okay. If you have any troubles, be sure you realize that almost anyone here is happy to give you answers or pointers. I, too, am happy to answer any qs you may have. Just keep my name handy and then if you ever need me, hover over -- 'community' in the tool bar across the top -- then click on 'find a member' and then 'R'. Of course, I'll be listed as 'robyn corum'...duh. *smile*

This was a really cute poem. I absolutely enjoyed it and had no idea the honking was coming from a goose, of all things. Ha! I do wish the meter had been a bit more even to smooth out the reading experience, but that will come with the writing experience here and with lots and lots of good encouragement and tips from all the writers here. *smile* I wish you the very best of luck. Hope you come to love it here as much as so many of the rest of us do!! Happy week!

Thanks for the kind words! At 69, I am Herschel - complete with RV. Almost everything I have ever written makes an attempt at humor. I find life fun. Of course, I've been married to the same woman for 40 years (if I had just robbed a bank, I could have been out after 5 with good behavior) so you must keep a sense of humor to do that! Visit the diary place in a day or so when I finish polishing "What did you do to me in the night?"

Doing the right thing is always the best course to follow as "Herschel" did in this well crafted poem.

Touch of humor thrown in for good measure.

Should make an interesting entry into this contest.

Herschel definitely deserves a five even though there are times when the meter's slightly out. But this poem entertains the reader with its humour. It's a delightful reminder that poetry can be fun. I wish you well in the contest

Absolutely wonderful both in story and rhythm and rhyme.
Sounds to me like Hershel had himself a wonderful time
The main theme of your story in rhyme,
Hershel didn't have to change, his nature of his kind.
Oh gosh now you have me doing it.
Good stuff and very enjoyable.

    Humbled at your kind words
    This was my first posting
    I thought my work worthwhile,
But knew I risked a toasting!
    Say, with kind words comes
Inspiration to post more, so wait,
    Soon, Ireland, "Heaven's Front Gate"

Thanks for the kinds words and the welcome! Reese

I liked this tale very much. As a retired person, I emathized with what Herschel wanted. His returning the goose sounds almost like an incident that actually happened. And, of course, your point about helping others rings with sincerity. Thanks so much.

Thanks for your heart felt reply. It is my first post of a poem. I was a salesman in my career so serving is a big deal with me. I am also in Lions Club and our motto is "We Serve". And, I love my RV!!! Thanks again! What was the incident?
