Yes, the art of conversation, cursive writing, correct spelling, common courtesy, all out the window in an age of convenience, speed and instant gratification. Your poem nailed it, Dip.

Absolutely. Amen. About two months ago, a lady texting just walked right out in front of my truck. Good thing I was paying attention, because she sure wasn't. I don't own one, don't want one. Who in their right mind wants to be available 24/7?? Not I!!! GREAT write!! Blessings...

I completely agree with your sentiment. When my oldest daughter comes to visit with her fiancé or I visit them, they are both on their cell phones the entire time! Not only don't they talk to me, they don't talk to each other. I think it's sad that texting has replaced hearing an actual voice on the phone. Sadly I think it's going to get worse as time goes on.

I sure do agree with this, DIP:
I just responded to another post this morning about this same thing. Everywhere we go we see people lost into their focus on their cell phones. Even in our own homes, the cell phones are glued to our children's hands, every where they are and everywhere they go. My husband watches TV but his cell phone is right there as he is watching TV and playing chess on his cell phone at the same time. Needless is a normal conversation anymore. The invention of cell phones has changed it all for good. Perfect poem... It really deserves a six.

It's an obsession. We can't be unoccupied. If we are
we pull out our cell phone. We can't go to the bathroom
without cell going with us. I loved your approach this
topic and the rhyming was excellent. Bill

Yes, Dip, I have heard that our constant use of all of these mobile devices are rewiring our brains to short attention spans and instant gratification from constant distractions. You write:
Cell phones have taken over our lives
Talking face to face is lost
The question is asked how one survives
Without one, let's count the cost
You open you poem with a prediction:
There's a worldwide addiction
It's just getting worse
And it is my prediction
It's to be a gen.Y curse
One of the casualties is conversations between people at dinner tables. They may sit together, but they are conversing with other people on smart phone.
You closing lines site the rise in car accidents. You conclude:
Gone are the days of the answering machine
Land lines are a thing of the past
Leaving a message is just so obscene
In a world that is moving too fast
Gen Y is capitalize and lacks a period.
Thank you for poetically sharing your concerns.

I still have a landline!!
I had a cell phone the last three years I worked off my mountain. I realized I did not want to be available 24/7 to anyone who wanted to call. A friend of mine--in her 60s--said, "Oh, I don't want to risk missing anything!
I DO. How do people rest anymore? Thought provoking, temper raising post, Dip. All truth.

The other day in a restaurant, the entire group of people had cell phones stuck to the side of their head. I swear they were talking to each other. lol
Cell phones are good, but many people have let them take over their lives. Gaming, texting, etc. Yarg!

Indeed dip they have taken over our lives and they kill and they cause corruption (sexting, etc). And yes, conversation is dying out. Nicely written.
