Nicely put into context for the most, for one tyrant must be dealt by other means, not the same as he would self deal.
A touch subject because t involves more than just two countries directly...another cries out for help and one more threatened....not easy.

My best wishes, and well written.

At one time, a leader would hold another country to ransom, now one country holds the world to ransom. The threat is very real and if something isn't done about it, one madman could destroy our lives forever. This leader wants recognition, yet the Regime can't look after it's citizens who live in poverty and the country is backward. You'd think he would be concentrating on improving the lives of ordinary people, but instead he wants to destroy others. His actions are a sad indictment of the human race. Your poem is real and honest Dip, love Dolly x

Hey Dip,

You wrote:

"The world watches on with baited breath"--BATED. Both are words, but the meaning is different.

This is an extraordinary piece, and gets to the very gutpunch of where we are as members of humanity. I hate both of the leaders you mention; neither cares about anything but himself. That alone should disqualify them from any ability to decide the fate of what might ultimately be the entire population of Earth.

Hi Dip. The rank and file citizens of each and every country want the exact same thing, to live in peace and harmony with their families and friends. Kim Jong Un is mentally ill and has no regard for anyone. Trump is in a tough spot and needs support. And, it wouldn't make any difference who was in the WH. We'd still have the problem of NK and Iran to deal with. These countries have been allowed to go on too long unchecked.

The big problem the earth is facing (if we get past immediate dangers) is world overpopulation which is exceeding 7.5 billion people. Too many. Our planet cannot sustain such numbers and is growing exponentially each day. Resources and environment are suffering because of it. Time to get on the bandwagon for just replacing ourselves--two kids per family and that's it. Leave room for future generations, our kids' kids and their kids. To put it bluntly, we are outgrowing our planet with nowhere else to go. Marilyn

Your four superbly-written quatrains eloquently express the fears of many as this dreadful situation unfolds.

Through his spies, Stalin knew we had the atomic bomb well before Truman used it to end World War Two without having to invade Japan, which would have killed far more civilians. Then spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg gave the Soviet Union the secrets that allowed them to catch up to us (for which they were executed). Yet, neither Stalin nor his successors were stupid or insane enough to actually start a nuclear war. President Kennedy was able to negotiate with Khrushchev the removal of soviet nuclear missiles he had in Cuba in 1962, as both men knew Mutual Assured Destruction was suicide for humanity.

It was Bill Clinton who allowed the North Koreans to get weaponizable nuclear technology under the guise of improving nuclear power for a country rich in coal but barely using electricity. (NK is still the only heavily populated place on earth that is dark at night as seen from space.) More recently, Obama appeased both NK and Iran, knowing full well (a) that NK was helping Iran nuke up and (b) that NK had miniaturized nuclear warheads by 2013. (The latter is not a breaking story. The corrupt news media suppressed it until they had a Republican president to blame it on.)

Appeasement did not work with Hitler, and it does not with either NK or Iran. It makes no difference whether Kim Jong Un is clever or insane; for his threats must be taken seriously, as both his nuclear technology and his missile delivery capability are becoming truly dangerous. Trump's tough talk is all that someone like Kim can understand; and so far it has at least given Kim a credible warning.

No sane leader in the world today wants nuclear war. Both India and Pakistan have nukes; but, much as they dislike each other's views, they do not rattle that saber on either side. Israel, though surrounded by enemies that have repeatedly attacked, has not responded with nukes. Putin now has nuclear subs that are faster than ours and capable of launching huge, exterior-carried torpedoes that can travel up to six thousand miles, undetected, to set off a monstrous hydrogen bomb near any coastal city in the world. Yet he is not overtly threatening us with them. But Kim is claiming he WILL attack us. THAT is the difference Trump reluctantly faces.

Trump bashers are NOT helping here. Anything seeming to undermine a national leader in time of enemy threat bolsters the confidence of that enemy.

Trump knows there is too much risk to South Korea (and Japan) if we invade NK, but he cannot just wait until Kim launches against Guam, Hawaii, or our mainland. If it appears such an attack is imminent, he will be forced to act decisively. The corrupt press may portray him as "trigger happy" or "unstable" or whatever, but he is just being responsible in the reality of the threat we face. He knows full well that any radiation released will come back here on the wind, just as the Pacific Ocean is bringing us radiation from Japan's failed reactors at Fukushima. The question is whether Kim can be stopped in a non-nuclear way if sanctions are not enough.

Meanwhile Kim must be aware that to launch against us will mean his demise. The real question then becomes whether he cares about that. So far he seems to be healthy; but, if he becomes ill, the possibility that he'll decide to go out with a bang will rise dramatically.

The greater danger in all of this is that the global oligarchy WANTS war in order to reduce the world population by ninety-five percent, as they are hubristic enough to believe they will survive whatever happens.

By the way, it is interesting that your illustration focuses on the Middle East, which actually is a more likely flashpoint for World War Three.

All the rest of us can do is hope that God has not decided that humanity has become so corrupt that it must be wiped out and replaced by something else.

Bear in mind that both the leaders of Islam and many devout Christians are looking forward to an apocalypse and believe it is inevitable.

"The worry" indeed for those who just want to live in peace.

That is an amazing insight Walker I learnt a lot from that I am glad you see the relevance of my poem. It certainly is a worry.

Thanks so much for the 6 as well

You are most welcome, my friend. I am old enough to remember all of the events I mentioned, from the air raid drills in elementary school around 1950, and news reports of the conviction and execution of the Rosenbergs, to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 when I was in college. Based on that history, I'd say the present situation is far more dangerous. Be glad you live where you do.

Now you know why the Trump bashers are part of the problem. Anything that suggests to Kim that Trump may be restrained emboldens Kim to persist. The corrupt, fake news media are primarily responsible for spreading the false claim that Trump is less than qualified for his job. The reality is that, while campaigning, Hillary assured bankers that there would be four more wars for them to profit from. We are most fortunate she is not our president. -- Mike

I hold out little hope for a world effectively controlled att the moment by two gentlemen who clearly have no control over their respective barbers. The ultimate show down will be the biggest bad hair day yet.

What this world is going to turn out to be, who knows. Not good I don't think. You expressed the thoughts well in poetic form.

Dip, This is a very well written true poem you have written. I was watching the news this morning and it is a very sad thing that is going on. You used very good descriptive wording and very good imagery. I just keep praying that God will intervene in this situation! Blessings, Teri
