Oh so true. Here in Texas we often have well above 100 degree weather, but our skies are smokey. Our skies are deep blue and not a cloud in them It's gorgeous. I did enjoy reading your contest entry and I wish you the best of luck.

A very well-written haiku. Beneath the Smokey skies the wilted evergreens crackle and the pine cones pop open when the heat becomes too much handle for the time.

    Yes, Sandra, I was so astounded to hear the pine cones pop open in extreme heat that I kept going outside to listen to them as I composed my poem. Thank you for your review.

Beautiful observation framed into wonderful haiku with apt picture to match with. Pine cones pop open is so nice as satori.

    Thank you, hargunanand, for your kind review. Usually I stay inside during heat waves, but when my dog insisted I take her for a walk, I heard the pine cones pop open in the heat.

Hi Andre;
a sweet poem and a wonderful presentation. I like the thought of the pine cones cracking open to release their seeds to the world. The smokey skies are a bit scary because of all the fires, but it is a part of nature.

    Yes, Patty, those smokey skies are part of nature. The crackling pine cones of the San Francisco Bay Area inspired my poem on Friday but I decided to post it Saturday when I visited Los Angeles which is having the largest brush fire in the city's history.

Whoa! Get out of there, LOL! Excellent haiku uses all the senses to create a vivid scene, in very few words. Great use of artwork. Good job!

    Yes, Kathleen, I left the heatwave and popping pine cones of San Francisco on Friday only to watch a thousand firefighters begin to put out the largest fire in Los Angeles history in the mountain range directly behind my family's home. People packed in case firefighters gave them orders to evacuate. I saw a smokey moon when I returned to San Francisco. Thank you for your review.

Well written haiku should make an interesting entry into this contest.

The action displayed, "wilted evergreens," and "pine cones pop" add a visual dimension to the overall quality of the poem.

Liked the haiku about the pine cones popping open. The picture, background and font highlights the content of the poem. Smokey skies gives an image of lightly clouded atmosphere. Wish you the best in the contest.
