This is entertaining and fun. "Abscond!" Great word to keep around. He/she absconded with the funds in the treasury. I like your comparison to Shakespeare killing off the characters his plays rather than having them abscond with each other. Marilyn

Marilyn, quite unlike most reviewers, I can count on you reading, totally understanding, and commenting intelligently.
Even so, I have to say you nailed this one. Thank you!

Very good. You absconded the word abscond and made it easy to understand. Another word rescued from the absurdity of obscurity. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

"Abscond", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.

I loved this, and what a great word! I can't remember when I heard that word being used, probably in a lit class in college. You are so right about Romeo and Juliet, they should have absconded with not only each other, but with whatever treasure they could carry....oh well!!!

Truth be told, I've used the word, only to be asked what it meant. I personally like the way abscond paints a picture all by itself. That of a thief sneaking off with something valuable. But then there would be no drama had Romeo and Juliet just eloped...well done.

LOL! That was really good, and funny! I loved all the references to Shakespeare had he used such a word. These poems bringing back words we've almost forgotten, is such a good idea. Well done and good luck in the contest! :) Sandra xx

Nicely written poem and it flowed well. And your right if Romeo had not absconded with Juliet there would be nothing for Shakespeare to write. Nice job. Thank you for sharing and best wishes in the contest

What a fun poem, Don! Yes, there are so many ways that Romeo and Juliet could have had a happier ending. But perhaps with a happier ending, their families wouldn't have learned a painful lesson. Good word "abscond."

Thank you so much for your compliments and comments, Lyenochka! But how do you know my blind entry is my poem?

It's not a blind entry, Don. I think we are all seeing each other's names in the list of entries.

clever take on Romeo and the bard and "the word."
I use abscond, but then I love words. However most don't (use it)so I'm glad you're bringing it back.
By the way, I love your nom de plume. Nifty name - see,I brought back one of entrant's words! in fact I absconded with it. ha!
at any rate, I like your entry.

What a delightfully clever response to the writing prompt! I love how the poet places the reader smack dab into the premise... although, he is correct to make his assertion: Abscond, is indeed, a very fine word, worthy of saving for future use (although sadly, as is pointed out, quite useless at this point to Romeo and Juliet...)

A small, theatrical poem in and of itself--Bravo!
