A very well-written poem and interpretation of the 'picture this' challenge. I think it is the intentions of the giver of the pearls that will detetmine if it is pearls of happiness or sadness.

Thank you, Sandra, for your thoughts on my take. I'm glad it was my mother who gave me mine!! LOL. :) Sandra xx

I have always thought of a simple strand of pearls as being dainty and elegant, and usually worn by someone with confidence who doesn't need diamonds and gold to impress. Of course, I'm a simple man, who takes pride in appreciating those who avoid gaudy for the sake of being noticed. Thanks for sharing. :-)

They are a simple strand of pearls, Ric, and my favourite. They are elegant, and you don't need any other bauble when you have a string of beautiful pearls. My dear mother left me hers when she died, and I wear them with pride, they will always remind me of her. Thank you, my friend, I enjoyed your thoughts on them, too. :) Sandra xx

You just reassured me of your impeccable taste in classic beauty, as if I needed any. :-)

Very nice, my friend, dispelling those nasty rumors and giving us the true meaning of these lovely gems. I really loved the pic and it's possibilities.

Thank you, JoAnn. They were awful weren't they, such a shame when you think how lovely the pearl is. Now I know that was all a big fib! I love wearing my pearls, my mum left them to me when she died, so they mean a lot to me. Thanks again, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Oh you reminded me of the lore of the pearls and that they were sometimes given by a jealous rival to make the marriage not work. Excellent rhyme and syllable count.

That's right, but that wasn't true, they actually made the rival's marriage stronger! LOL. Thank you, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

The medieval poem "Pearl" springs to mind here as a symbol of perfection, the pearl of great price. Heptametrical perfection is what we have here. In this long line sonnet as I shall call it. Some say they bring bad luck but I can't see why that should be.

I can't understand why people believe that, especially after I found out what the pearl means to so many cultures and religions. I just love the look of them, they are so classy, simple, yet beautiful. Thank you, Jim, for your lovely review. I'm glad you liked it. :) Sandra xxx

I absolutely loved this elegant, beautifully rhymed poem about pearls. Is there a contest with that picture? I saw three or 4 poems on it today.
I enjoyed your well sustained anapestic rhyming, your metronome-like meter and flow and the timeless elegance of your piece.
The calming touch of creamy pearls lay cool upon her hand,
Such elegance, a pure delight, made from a grain of sand.
Now passed on to the lady and then twisted through her hair
to compliment her wedding dress and the veil she'll wear.
Simply delightful.

Thank you so much for this lovely review. This is part of the Picture This challenge group, anyone can join, just get in touch with Jacqueline Franklin, she's the one who started the group. Every two weeks one member chooses a picture and we all have to write a poem about it, in any form. It's fun and gives the brain some work! It will be lovely if you can join us too. Thank you again, I really appreciated your lovely comments on my take. :) Sandra xxx

I thought this was a lovely poem to go along with the picture prompt. It was written so well and had a nice flow to it. I also found the additional information about pearls quite interesting! Thank you for sharing! :)

I could have sworn I read another poetry on pearls yesterday or so, and I touched on the long processes those sensitive shell dwellers take to turn the irritatings grains of sand to pearls.
Thanks for providing so much more information both in your poem as well as the author's notes. How wonderful.
My Grandy had black Polynesian pearls that I inherited - I will now treasure them even more, if possible.

LOL! I would too!! I have my mother's pearls and my mother-in-laws, both left to me in their wills. I love pearls and could never understand why people thought they were unlucky. Far from it. Thank you so much, my friend, for your lovely review. Big hugs!! :) Sandra xxx

I appreciate both the picture and the lyrical poem to match. (also the complete author notes) Your rhyming, for the most part, is wonderful. However, there are a few instances where it seems forced. "today she gets to wear" is perhaps a bit simple, using the word, "gets". " "and good things all the way" seems to say nothing, but it does rhyme. Otherwise, great work!

Hi, John, thank you so much for your thoughtful review. I've had a look at those lines and made a couple of changes. I do appreciate your remarks, they made me try a bit harder. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the rest of it. Thank you! Sandra xx

Thank you, dear Patricia. I was really pleased to learn that pearls are so nice to have and not things of doom and gloom. I have two pearl necklaces, both left to me in my mothers and mother-in-law's will. And I love them! I'm glad you enjoyed my take on the picture, my friend. :) Sandra xx
