Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

In my opinion, an exciting piece in its articulate expression of "Faith" in totally objective and casual rhyme. While the poem probes substantive conclusion regarding the existence of God, "Faith" ultimately concludes "Faith" is preferable to pure scientific reasoning - extremely well and conversant written - thank you for a splendid read...

I liked Giordono Bruno's explaination - we reason as best we can then make a "leap" of faith (intuizoni) to the conclusion. As opposed to Aquinas' total reliance on reason. (which doesn't work)

I agree - there comes a time when only intuition is able to take us forward to a new level. Thanks for your review. Best wishes, Tony

Hey Tony. For me that last stanza says it all! This is not only what this write is about but what the world should be about. It's all the knock-outs that life throws that make us hesitant I think. Great write. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

I admiring your interpreting faith in this equation and reinforcing your poem with the illustration. I enjoyed your wordplay with "why" in these rhythmic, rhymed quatrains. Cheers and best wishes in the contest- Joan, from Fairbanks

You're funny, however, it is true too. There are so many variables that stray people away from God. However, those with true faith always find their way back. Even if just once per year at Christmas. A sad truth for too many. Wonderful work.

You're right - faith is stronger in some than in others. Thanks for the review. Best wishes, Tony.

This is a very nicely composed poem, Tony. Whether we believe in science/mathematics or in God we may never have the mysteries explained to our satisfaction. Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn. Some questions are unanswerable - best just to get on with the business of living!

Amen to that, Tony. As humans we don't have to know everything.

Interesting how you merge faith and mathematics. The argument you create seems logical. As always, you have excellent poetic form making the most of enjambment, rhyme and word choice. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks, WJ, both for your kind comments and good luck wishes. Faith and reason are perhaps both at their best when influenced by each other. That's my take on it anyway!

Good luck with your contest entry; a different take on faith, but a true one. We are told not to look for signs. Faith gives us signs in the beauty of nature. Faith can't be reasoned by our poor mathematics, Jesus said "faith is the evidence of things not yet seen." Well done poet.

Thanks, Aussie. There is great strength in faith. It goes beyond reason.

A profound, well-structured, and thoughtful poem about math and faith. You delve into an age old question of logic and faith, using math as a metaphor and a vehicle of your musings, as if you are using algebraic equations with X:

There is in life an x, unknown,
so let us call it God,
and let us solve our lives for x -
a postulate that's odd

You continue by stating that reason is mystified by WHY. This leads to you conclusion:

but we can solve our lives for x
if logic is displaced,
by taking why right out of it,
and substituting faith.

Thank you for sharing your unique poem of faith. I even loved your off rhymes of displaced/faith. I wish you contest success.

I personally find it to just be a 'knowing', totally unexplainable. Every time I try to 'reason', I wind up not believing, as questions multiply....and I can never find X!! LOVED this!! Blessings...
