Wow...I can so identify with this. My dad did the same thing the week he died, gave me 'life advice', something he'd never done before. And I just knew. An excellent entry. Blessings...

Yes, yes, yes, Irish Rain. That is what I am talking about. Ailing people who do or say something out of character shortly before they die. I am glad you identified with my poem. Thank you for your review and for wishing me well in the contest.

Yes, yes, yes, Sharon, we are not imagining these things. When our ailing loved ones decline their favorite foods they often die within hours or days. Many reviewers have witnessed the same thing with their dying loved ones. Thank you for your review and for confirming my experience and many people's experiences.

It's great that your relationship with your uncle was so close that a simple statement was all that was needed to convey a far larger truth. We should all develop this kind of relationship with our loved ones. I' sorry about your loss. This is a fine tribute.

Yes, Thomas, I had visited my uncle and baked him teacakes so often that I saw it as significant when he instructed me not to bake more. I visited him without the cookies he loved since childhood. Five days later, he died.

Thank you for your review and condolences.

Hello Andre,
Sorry to hear of your loss
There is quite a resemblance between the two of you
the same smile and light in the eyes,
not to mention the cool beret hats
Did he also write poetry or stories like you and your mother?
I'll bet you shared same great stories while eating those teacakes
Excellent three-line poem
Best wishes to you and your family
RS

So sorry for your loss. No matter how prepared you think you are for the death of a loved one, it still comes as a shock, and it still hurts very deeply. Your poem is a wonderful tribute to your uncle.

Bill~

Hello Sicat: I assume that is a picture of you and your uncle. Beautiful. I love your poem. The simplicity is profound. You have done it again: written a great piece. God bless you, whatever your belief system. (I do not wish to impose upon anyone at FS my beliefs. I am not a "Bible Thumper" and resist some poetry that is preaching "God, Jesus and church", as if that is the only "way".)

Thank you, Robina, for your review, condolences, and contest best wishes. Yes, that is me and my uncle in the picture. He had been suffering with inoperable bladder cancer for a year. His wife took this picture before be became bedridden in a hospice.

Thank you, Dolly, for your review and condolences. I wanted to write something to immortalize my uncle. Yes, he intuitively knew he was dying sooner rather than later. He died five days after he told me not to bring teacakes to the hospice.
