This type of flash piece is so difficult for me; therefore, I really appreciate when someone nails it as you have. You told a story in 3 lines. Bravo!

Yes, John, as small as a flash piece is I focus on telling a story or providing enough clues so that the reader can extrapolate a story. Thank you for your review and compliments.

I am sorry to hear of your uncle's demise but this is a very witty little piece. I guess he either knew they would be wasted or rhe realised that it was the teacakes tha weree killing him.

Ha, Jim, that is a humorous review. No, it wasn't the teacakes that did my uncle in but bladder cancer. Thank you for your review and condolences on this witty piece about my uncle. He knew his death was imminent.

My sincere condolences Andre. I remember you taking round the 'real' tea cakes. You are a fortunate man to have such wonderful family memories.

Thank you, Valmay, for your generous, six star review and condolences. I am grateful that I made all of those visits with my uncle, bringing him teacakes and sharing family stories. Thanks again.

Don't really understand wjat teacake has to do with death but simple, short and intriguing. Good but not great. Keep up the good work alright

Thank you, beizanten, for your review. Ordinarily, teacakes have nothing to do with death, but when my cancer-stricken uncle at a hospice turned down his favorite cookie, I saw it as significant. He died five days later. Several reviewers reported their dying loved ones refusing their favorite foods hours or days before death.

"Last Words" is an extremely well-written and heart-wrenching piece. Short, succinct and very much to the point. This talented poet's work carries an important message.
I've just read and reviewed a definite SIX!

Oh, thank you, Duchess, for your generous, six star review. As short as this poem is, I wanted to say something. I let my uncle have the floor to say his last words. Thanks again for your review and support.

Sis Cat, you definitely deserved the six, sparkling star review.
Best wishes and bless you, the Duchess

Your poem is so simple yet so poignant. Brevity is often the key and you succeeded in bringing a tear to my eye with just thirteen words. It must have been a sad moment for you when you realised what he had meant. Please acceptance my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your uncle. Sue

Yes, Sue, for months I baked and brought for my uncle his favorite cookie from childhood. One day, he told me not to bring anymore. I visited him without my cookies for the first time in over a year. Several days after my cookie-less visit, he died.
Thank you for your heartfelt review and condolences.

Thank you, Kahpot, for your review. When he died five days after he turned down my cookies, I understood the significant of his refusal. Many reviewers wrote of similar experiences of dying loved ones turning down favorite foods on the day or week they died. Thank you for your review and for wishing me and my family the best.

Too much sugar can kill
It's not a very good choice

Thank you, C_Lucas, for your review. My uncle died of bladder cancer and not an overdose of sugar.

There are a lot of stories once we start recollecting.
Your uncle probably knew he was passing away. Sorry to hear.
Since you are a historian, my area is known for
the Pennsylvania Dutch, the horse and buggy people. In other words, that is their major transportation around their areas.
Congratulations on your wins.

Yes, artisart4u, I have heard from many reviewers who reported similar experiences with dying loved ones who decline favorite foods days or sometimes hours before their deaths. Their refusal, their letting go of the pleasures of this this life is their message that they are ready to move on to the next life. Thank you for your generous, six star review and condolences.
