Jo--
I like this. It is easy going but full of intense emotion. I only have trouble with one line -- this one:

In a glance, my soul was laid bare

This is a bit...what? Raw? A cliche? Not sure, but it struck me as out of place in a poem, the rest of which seems original and easily worded.

Thanks. I'd six it if I had any.

Jeff

Thank you, Jeff, for reviewing my poem. Yes, maybe a little dramatic the line you pointed out. LOL.

Just like certain events in our lives there are people--some even perfect strangers--whom we can never forget, justjo66.
It appears yours came in the form of a red-haired man in a bar somewhere.
If this is biographical he sure made quite an impression.
Best of luck in the contest.

LOL, yes, he sure did make an impression. It seems I'm very attracted to red-haired men. He wasn't the one that I married but I did snag one with reddish blonde hair and a red beard. :O)

Thank you, Irish Rain, for your review. I love your username. I did find a soulmate for 43 years now (just not the red-haired one) :O)

A very well-written free verse poem. Sometimes two souls meet from a distance without ever making closer physical contact. Years later the souls can still remember the meeting every time they meet despite the body that carries the soul.

This is an interesting poem that leaves the reader wondering about what was, what wasn't and what might have been.

Ther is a nice choice of words and the scene is easy to visualize. Most of us have been there at one time or another.

Quite an impression made with a single look.

Nice posting!

Thank you for your review. Yes, I think maybe all of us at one time or another have been hurt. This was a painful time
of my life after my divorce. I did find a soulmate but not the red-haired stranger. :O)

I've always believed if you meet someone like this then there was something you needed to say. Too bad it was just a look and not a talk. Great write. Enjoyed it immensely thank you. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Thank you for the review. I sometimes wonder what may have happened if we had actually had a conversation. Maybe, his voice would have turned me completely off. LOL. I did find a soul mate for 43 years now ( but not red-haired or ginger as now it is called). Have a few ginger grandchildren. :O)

The recount of this memory is beautiful
The first stanza is my favourite "I knew you were wounded like me" depicts your connection to be deep and unyielding
Wonderfully described

Thank you so much for reviewing my poem. I think a lot of us (or maybe all of us) have been wounded at some
time. This was a period in my life after my divorce that I was. I did find someone to comfort me for 43 years now (not the red-haired stranger LOL).

thank you for sharing this well structured free verse poem. It makes for a good entry in the contest. I met a stranger in a bar when our eyes locked across the room; he's been my hubby for almost 34 years.

I'm smiling at your review. I met my husband in a bar, too. We have been married 43 years. I'm his third and he is my second marriage. People told us we would never last...we showed them. LOL. However, this was not him. :O) just a stranger across a dark bar room floor that I didn't know but for a moment we clicked and I remember that connection. :o) Funny how our memories are. Sometimes I can't remember what I did yesterday but can remember a moment in time so many years ago.
