hello DIP, Yes, I guess it shows a person who has depression, that you are concerned, to ask, "Are you okay?" But it really takes a lot more that that. My daughter had depression but "Are you okay does not do it for her?" I leterally have to spend some real quality time with her for her to feel better or for er to have a better day. But I get where you are coming from with this one. It's really a nice thought. Suicide is way more extreme than that. Usually once a person makes up their mind, it takes a lot of work to talk them out of it.

Your poem is excellent though and very well written.

Having suffered severe depression myself I know exactly what you mean But the words RU Ok are merely a representation saying we all must care and try to understand. There is a day for depression and I am sure it is worldwide called RUOK day.

    Thanks for commenting

Wow I would have never figured that out about you, You always seem so happy. Your poetry never hints it at all. Me too, though I really still wear my depression like a warm coat. I hear you also, really I do.

Dip,

This is some sage advice that you provided in your poem. Ironically, prior to reading your poetry, I did just that.

During the months of June, I have been extremely busy that I have not spoken to some of my friends. Today, I checked on them to determine if they were okay.

Thank you for the thoughtfulness, Dip.

Are you okay?

I suffer from depression myself. Somedays it difficult just to get out of bed. Most of my friends suffer from mental illness, and yet still show so much strength. A true friend is there for you through thick and thin. This poem's message is important. We as humans need love to survive and indeed a phone call can truly "save a life."

This is a wonderful and very touching poem. Dip. It is so very true. I have seen a similar letter posted that went viral a while back. It always sticks in the back of my mind, and I do say, Hi, to many more strangers as I pass them by since I've read it. It is so very true. Hmmm.. It really does make you think. Just a simple smile can turn someone's day around. Well done, my friend and thank you for sharing this lovely piece of poetry. ~Kerry

Well, Dip, you pushed me out of my last six. And deservedly
so. Not only have you put this in well written and metered
poem, but your message is huge and this poem should be going
to websites all over the world. Think of the lives that could be saved
tonight if each of us called up someone and just say, "Are you okay?"
Bill

Yes, Dip, I remember you asking me that question, too, "Are you okay?" Your poem and its accompanying illustration reminded me that this afternoon during a walk and drive I always made a conscious effort to smile and wave to people I passed walking their dogs or jogging. I do not know what cards they have been dealt, but I believe you that a smile, a kind word, or gentle question can help assuage the depression that leads to isolation and suicide. A smile binds us together.

Thank you for sharing and even more for caring.

Just absolutely beautiful advice Mr. Dip. I always tried to make my customers feel important, to let them know they mattered, when I waitressed. Maybe I helped someone. Blessings....

Nice sentiment rendered in couplets. Though often times a bit pointless. When a person is despondent, they will almost never want to tell someone of it, preferring to be left alone. But it is a nice thought, anyway.
