Hello Lij Red. This is such an exquisite piece of writing. So full of poetic passion and it makes the reader wonder what is really going on in our physical world. Good luck in the Poem of the Month contest. This one is super fine! xoxo Kiwi

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my poem. I was a bit surprised to be nominated for that poem, but I am glad to be in the running.

All things, and people, come to an end. So it is written.
I don't know why people think they must choose between God and science.
Most religions embrace modern medicine. Is that a contradiction?
I think science explains God. It doesn't negate him.
Your opening line is remarkably similar to a lyric from a Leonard Cohen song.
He says, "There's a crack, there's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."
Best of luck, Red.
Peace, Lee

I think science is like the six guys prating about the elephant none of them has seen. I wonder if God regrets creating science.
I think there is too much method in the universe for all to be random madness. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Lee.

An interesting look into the coldness, endlessness of space, vs. Creationism thinking that is the centre of many people's belief in God.
Some think it's one or the other, and not both.
God never said the earth was flat, and neither did the bible.
At one time, people believed that the sun revolved around us - and yet the bible doesn't state that either. We took the information we were given, and came up with our own conclusions based on our limited knowledge of science.
Our creation is explained in the bible in a way that all can understand, even a child, and yet in truth none of us knows how or why we came to exist at all.
It is said best here in
1 Corinthians 13:12King James Version (KJV)
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
When the bible says in Genesis that God created the Heavens and the Earth, it does not say how. Perhaps that BIG BANG we hear so much about was HIS doing.
Scientists are a curious lot, and have discovered many truths that are not fully understood. Dark Energy is one of them. Where Earth is and where it is going we only know in part. I think we are not meant to know everything - more often than not - that is a good thing. Einstein surely didn't know it all and he in particular was fully aware of that.
Lots of meat and taters in your poem, LIJ - A most worthy poem for the POM contest.

A clever thief will take a little and leave a little, they say, and I think humans as a rule should practice that policy. maybe we are programmed like gamecocks, to dominate or die. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.

So true. We're hard-wired into thinking of ourselves as all important and at the top of the food chain. LOL.

Brilliantly crafted and constructed poem. I loved the use of every word you included. Isn't it amazing what message we can get across with just a few words. Well written. I liked this piece.

my neighbors have their own pyrotechnics, all I have to do is kill the lights and look out the window and soothe the whining
Chihuahua, who hates firecrackers, gunfire, thunder and jakebrakes. Thanks very much for reading my ottava real, and have a great fourth!
Comment from Jay Squires
I don't know what an Ottava Real is, but I suspect it has to do with the power of the last two lines:
I see my end coming, so don't think it odd
if I drop Einstein and go looking for God.
Saying God comes after the final disillusionment.
Beautiful work, Red.

I think I followed the form for the ottava real here, Jay. Pure science is cold comfort to a human being who begins to see that his species, like himself, is rather small and shortlived. All I wanted was to write light and entertaining prose, I don't know where this dark, heavy stuff comes from. I used to tell the church gang I was the only hillbilly Baptist who knew for sure he was never called to preach. The six gives me hope that I am growing as a word-juggler and may say something yet. Thanks!

Don't wait so long to determine you've really said something that your potential readership BEYOND FANSTORY is deprived of your brilliance. I MEAN IT, so wipe that silly blush off your face. Dig up your best poetry and prose snippets and get them published. Let your readership determine the value of what you're saying while you go on refining and deepening your message.

perfect abababcc rhyme scheme. Yes there is a crack in every thing and everyone where the darkness can get into. God though is always the light.

Thanks very much for reading and reviewing my ottava real. I was supposed to have an allusion(to Einstein) and an element in there(I read that eighty percent of the mass of the universe is dark matter, whatever that is.)

Thanks very much for reading and reviewing my ottava real, Robyn. The eleven syllables per line had me sorta outa step....

yep, think I heard it too, universe is expanding. Science says that things can be created by nothing but dark matter. I think two stars colliding creates a super nova and supernatural entities. Yes, i think the 4 apocalyptic angels are under the river Euphrates. I must believe in Jesus because He is the son of god made in god's image. And be sad if thee was no heaven but it is. Nice poem. BOO-tastic!

I enjoy books like The Whole Shebang, which is where I heard of Dark Matter, etc. Thanks very much for reading and and reviewing my attack on an ottava real.
-
Yeah, I heard folks say fecal matter on tv. ha ha, you know what that is.

God is infinite..science in flux....I limit my belief, even though I have three degrees in science. I love this poem which is both intellectual and metaphysical....It reveals an interest in both.

No degrees, just trade school on electronics long ago, in vacuum tube days, but a life time of voracious reading. Thanks for reading and reviewing my ottava real.
