You are so correct. If a viewer does not understand, or know how to review, they should learn, and not just the FanStory good old boy system of I will give you a 5, or 6, no matter how atrocious the writing, and in return you do the same.
Not liking something they read, or differences between English in the hemispheres, is no reason to mark down someone.
Better to try to be helpful with a review than not, though that has not always been welcomed by some members.

Ah, ha--you're an Aussie--so, your weekend has already started! I enjoyed your "rant"--in the States we say, "What goes around, comes around". Hi Joan we are 30 miles West of Sydney, the 2000 Olympic City, but some of the events were held not all that far from where we live...we are 14kms or 8 miles East of the Nepean River where some of the rowing events were held. I wrote a second verse to a poem by Mr Anonymous that has a Brooklyn accent. Look for Spring is 'ere.

I liked your poem and some people are caught I think in their own little world here and don't understand how to give others a chance or are not that understanding with their reviews... and,well, it's possible...if they stay long enough will learn that they just might have to pay their "dues" for being so harsh and to think their biased way of thinking are the one & only way of interpretation.

Hi Sankey, I'm very late with this but I wanted to comment. I couldn't agree with you more. I sometimes get a four because of my bad punctuation and maybe a sentence needing rephrasing. As English is not my first language what I need is encouragement in order to learn. A few writers rate me down and at the same time praise me for my story telling. haha someone gave me the idea of Muting if I don't like reviews I never thought of that before hehe. Thanks heaps can't remember if we are fans have to work on it.

I missed this the first time around. Dues/reviews rhymes just fine up here as well. LOVE the insipid/skip it rhyme, most clever indeed and it flows right by and works perfectly. Good advice all around. Nothing wrong with being reasonable, yes?
