Your poem grabbed my attention because of my work experience with wildlife.
Know very little about poetry. Appreciated the alternate rhyme scheme.
You've created a very nice description of an apparent chance interaction between a human and another proud member of the animal kingdom. The story related in your poem flows well and points out that even in what would seem a difficult situation meaningful communication is possible. Noticed that man is not capitalized until the last line. Suspect an intended deeper meaning.

You might not know much about poetry, but your review is exactly what most poets would love to receive. Thank you so very much, I really appreciate your kind words, and I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. :) Sandra xx

I like it... the wolf crooned along with the man. Not surprising if the wolf had recently eaten and had no cubs around. No reason to fight. Dogs were domesticated from wolves, so they can't be all teeth and terror. :)

Thank you, my friend. I like wolves, but perhaps not to have around the house, but at a distance. I think they are a fascinating animal. Beautiful, too. I'm glad you liked it. :) Sandra xx

At a nearby park building, I once watched a wolf eat a whole raw chicken. Took about ten seconds! Bones and all! Their jaws and teeth are amazing!

I can quite imagine that. When I was a child, we lived beside a farm and the lady kept chickens just for their eggs. They were always having problems with foxes, and they could kill and eat quickly too. So, a wolf would be really hard to stop. At least wolves don't stink like foxes!! :) xx

How are you doing today? Nice weather? It stormed and is cooling off now. Yay. I hired the teen across the street to do yard work. Kids work cheap, for minimum wage.

I heard about the fire in UK that killed so many. They really need laws requiring inspections and upgrades every five years.

We've been hearing about the safety laws in the US, it's common sense to me. All those people killed through stupidity. The poor people who have lost complete families, it's tragic. Loads of children too. The people are becoming angry now, and who can blame them.

This Shakespearean sonnet, The Strange Encounter, has all the points for the form and tells a great story of a moment when mutual respect wins over fear. Net capture.

Wolves are one of those animals that are fascinating for so many reasons. You capture that well in your poem with: "standing proudly", "yellow eyes focused on the man", and I particularly liked the "ancient wisdom". At the same time you incorporated the real danger inherent in the encounter very well.
My favorite line was the last one. I thought that a very effective ending. Metaphors or similes would have been nice tools to employ in this poem. The topic and tone lend themselves to that added imagery.
Lovely poem.

Thank you for your lovely review, Ann, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of wolves, I think they are magnificent animals. You are right, metaphors would have been well placed in this poem. I might change it one day when I'm sorting them all out, thanks for the suggestion! :) Sandra x

What a delightfully intriguing English Sonnet, flowing smoothly on iambic pentameter, about a man's encounter with a wolf. The tension resolved with music. Loved the onomatopoeia in the hum, howl, and yip. Excellence alliteration of the S in : stretched seemed sway, stood so still, so softly soothing, stirred sigh, shear surprise. If that was not all: head held high, man mesmerized, and yip yipped. Good use of enjambment, imagery, and caesaria. A true gem, masterfully written.

Hello,
I can close my eyes and feel myself there in the woods all serene and quiet when suddenly my eyes gaze upon a stray wolf.

Wonderful imagery, rhyme, and flow throughout.

Excellent story and poem. I love the message of the story, music can calm the beast, is my way of putting it. Your way was so eloquent, and riveting, as I did not know what was going to happen next, as I read in great anticipation, for the ending, to turn out all right. The meter, flow, and rhyme scheme, are all wonderful and artfully done. Thanks for the ride, I enjoyed reading this piece immensely. Adding the sound the wolf made was very clever. A beautiful picture to go along with the poem. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Take care, Jesse

This is so beautiful, Sandra, and a piece that I would consider spiritual. It's so magical when different animal species have a heart to heart connection, forgoing natural instincts.

Your poem is perfectly written, so much was conveyed with each well chosen word. They connected through the vibrations of the music - how marvelous! Hugs, Lou

Bless your heart, Lou, thank you so much for the six stars! I didn't think anyone would have any left this late in the week. How are you? Are you enjoying your break from FS? It's so nice to see you on here again, do you have any more of your lovely, funny poems up your sleeve?? Thank you for reading my poem, I'm chuffed to bits you liked it. Big hugs! Sandra xxxx

I'm not really back, just visiting. It's so much better reading when I'm really in the mood. I've been writing. My long term goal is to put together a collection of poems for a book. As with my reading, I only write when I'm in the mood. I didn't think I'd want to publish another book, but I do like the idea of leaving something behind for my boys to remember me by. At any rate, just having the goal gives me incentive. I'm not planning on posting again, but I sincerely appreciate your kind remarks. I'll visit you again, sweet Sandra.

This is an interesting poem. It shows how man can get along with the animals in nature, sometimes just by humming a soft tune. To be the man must have been a delightful thing. Patricia

That's something he won't soon forget. Is it based on a true story? The wolf probably didn't know what to do. I've heard it's best not to run from a predator. That's what prey would do.

I once read a story about a wounded wolf who was befriended by a man. The story was incredible, and I've always had a fascination with them ever since. Once you have got their trust, you have a friend for life. Thank you for your lovely review, my friend, I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. :) Sandra xx
