It's very beautiful the connection between human and man.
How can we simply show that we love and understand animals
Very beautiful
The way the man does the sound
And the wolf listens

This poem has the primal instinct of man and animal in the struggle for power. In nature it is anyone's guess who will succeed. But it comes to something so simple as a tune to make fearful the wolf, and man so surprised to cajole the wolf into turning away, it seems man outwitted the wolf in an ingenious way. Good work.

Lucky for the man he knew a tune the wolf enjoyed. :).
Lovely poem with terrific imagery, crisp words, and a snappy pace.
Simply a great piece of work!

What a beautiful piece on the encounter between Man and Wolf--the two communicating their fear, uncertainty, and final the Wolf's perhaps indifference. I hope I got the meaning correctly.

The lovely thing about poetry, John, is that everyone interprets them differently and they are all right. I'm just so pleased you enjoyed it enough to write a review and let me know. We can only try to get into an animal's head, but it's such fun trying. I'm sure they think the same about us! Thank you so much for this lovely review. :) Sandra xxx

-Very nice image.
-I like the poem very much, Sandra.
-It tells a good story about this
encounter in a very different way.
-The man did not react with fear
but rather hummed a tune.
-The wolf seemed soothed by this:
"an ancient wisdom came into his eyes"
-I like the ending, as well.

I do like wolves, I think they are a proud species, and there is something very spiritual about them. Mystical. Dear Pam, that's two of your precious 6s you've given me this week, you are so kind. I am over the moon with delight that you enjoyed my poem, thank you so very much, my friend! Big hugs again. Much love. Sandra.

I am dog sitting this weekend with my husband, he's a lurcher, a bit like a greyhound very lanky, and so sweet. When he stands up on his hind legs, he's taller than me! lol, but so gentle. He has taken me on a five-mile trek this afternoon! We'll all sleep well tonight. :) xx

I am glad you are "over the moon" that I enjoyed your poem as long as you come back🙂 Wolves are interesting and you wrote a good poem. Enjoy your dog sitting and have a good weekend, Sandra.

A wonderful encounter with a wolf
written as a Shakespearean sonnet in rhyme and meter
There are stories of wild animals behaving this way
that become part of lore and legend
One note: your pronunciation of listening may be different
but I read it as three syllables which throws off the meter.
Shakespeare often contracted the word he needed "list'ning"
I'm sure it is pronounced differently in various places
I like your switch to "Man" in the last line
it lends an almost universal sense to the encounter
Great picture to match the poem
Well done
RS

Goodness me, Robert, that's two x 6 you've given me this week, thank you so very, very much!! I will go and change the word listening to list'ning. We do pronounce it with just the two syllables here, perhaps because writers like Shakespeare contracted the word. We just got used to saying it that way. It's a thought, isn't it!! LOL. I'm pleased you picked up on the 'Man', only one other reviewer mentioned it. Thank you, my friend, for this lovely review, I really appreciated it, and a huge hug for the 6! xxx Sandra

Very entertaining! It's like a story in a poem, that's an 'ode', right? Okay, I'm not that up on knowledge of poems.

My favorite part:
The look he gave soon changed from fearsome scowl,
an ancient wisdom came into his eyes;
then suddenly the wolf began to howl,
the man was mesmerised with sheer surprise.

The wolf then yip yipped as he turned away...
and Man knew he would not forget this day.

Well written poem about an encounter with a wolf. Especially liked your meter and rhyme. After reading the first line, thought it needed a comma. After reading the whole poem and going back came to the conclusion it is not just fine but exceptional the way it is.

When my older boys were babies, we lived out in the middle of nowhere in Missouri. One snowy night, I was up with my babies, and I heard the most awful howling I had ever imagined. I looked out the window and there were a pack of wolves walking through the snow. It was scary. I enjoyed reading your beautifully written descriptive poem.

I can just imagine how scary that was, Barb. Do you know where they were heading? Was there a wood around your area? Perhaps they heard someone singing!! Thank you, my friend, for sharing your story and for reading my fictitious one. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) Sandra xx
