The terrifying feeling, standing face to face with a wolf would be something I could never forget. The old saying "Fight or Flight" does not enter his mind. Only how can he win the favor of the killer in front of him, while unable to make the slightest of movement. The animal was not hungry: he wanted no challengers, only suppliants

What a wonderful story, and picture you have painted in this fine poem Sandra.

As I read it I was transported to the cold world shown in the picture. When I read it aloud, I felt shivers of anticipation and delight in the response from this wild beast.

Only have one word to describe this. "Brilliant."

Thanks for sharing and making this fine Sunday morning even finer.

Hi there,

Yip, yipping is the sound of the fox... er wolf! lol I like this, nice strong word choices and imagery. A strange encounter indeed. The flow is nice and the rhythm spot on.

All the best

Thank you, G! I'm delighted you enjoyed it. I was told that the wolf yip yipped, as well as howl, and now that you mention it, a fox yips. I wonder if the wolf really does? Hmm, I will have to check that out. Thanks for the lovely review, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

I enjoyed your sonnet-like poem and your description of the scene. You had me at the mesmerizing "yellow eyes," and I admired your appeal to our sense of sound. Cheers- Joan

An atmospheric write, wolves seem such mystical creatures and we have conjured up a few myths and your poem continues the mystery and intrigue, love Dolly x

Excellent Sandy. Was thinking of the times when as a lad would listen to the timber wolves howling at night across the river. Well done.

Aww, thank you, Ben, for the lovely 6 stars! I like wolves, but wouldn't like to come face to face with one, it wouldn't like MY singing!! I'm so pleased my poem brought back some memories for you, thank you, my friend. :) Love, Sandy. xxx

I love wolves, and wildlife, so a poem about the topic immediately drew me in (plus the fact that you were the author, and you know I am a BIG fan of your work...*smile*) Just one suggestion for you to consider: I would not personify the wolf, in this case, just so it's clear that "it" is wild, and so it separates the beast from the man. :))

Nicely done, my friend.

Oh to be a wolf-whisperer at times like this when it really counts! I love this poem and its suggestion of the deeper connection and wisdom that exists between ourselves and the elements of nature, if only we are able to open the door to it.
