Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. I shall take on the prose potlatch challenge, as the saying goes, "If The Lord's willing and the creek don't rise."

LIJ,
I enjoyed reading your challenge poem. Great use of rhyme & descriptive words to describe your home. I really like that you stated you wrote 'no way I'd ever roam.' Your home sounds like an awesome place. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. I've lived here since I was seven, in 1951,
except for fours years in the USN.

Nice poem! I enjoyed the imagery of animals you included in this piece. It flows well and has good rhythm, and it's easy to read. Thanks for sharing and have a really great day

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. As I age, I don't adopt new animals.
I am down to four cats and a dog, all quite old. The race to the graveyard is on.

what a neat poem. a happy, satisfied poem. wonderful.
I have to ask, what is a sallet? or poke sallet? Guess I could Google it, but would rather hear it from you, if you don't mind. Google might not even know that one.
I love all the trees and the picture of them is really pretty. I think, though, I'd have to make a space to see the stars. I still wish on the first star I see tonight.
anyway, I really liked your poem. It's nice to hear someone who is right where he wants to be.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. Pokeweed is a large annual plant,
toxic but for the tiniest green shoots, which can be cooked like greens. Vernacular calls it poke sallet or just poke. Tony Joe White had a song on the charts in 1969, "Polk Salad Annie."

    chuckling -
I bet it was some song.
    Thanks for clearing that up.

So far, Red, this is one of the best (if not THE BEST) of the Idyll poems I've read that have come out of the Potlatch challenge this evening.
And I have read quite a few.
It not only tells a good story in perfect rhyme, but it also had its hilarious moments as well.
Well done.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. My lawn is comical, but nothing compared to my attempt at a garden. I just realized- except for that Navy hitch, I've been on this hill since 1951.

Hi LIJ:

What a beautiful idyll. The picture of your place is lovely, too. There are so many good lines in this piece. I love the rhymes and the laid back meter. It is a peaceful poem and so inviting. The final line is perfect, your tranquility lies in your own yard. Great job!

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. I hoped the less than mechanically precise meter would give it a down-home sound. (Besides, it's easier)

I don't blame you. I'd kick back and stay there, too. I used to live in a place much like yours. I still miss it.

A great idyll poem. It took me right to the place.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. I have lived here all but twelve of my 73 years. This hill is home.

A very well-written Idyll. I can imagine sitting there under the tree or the veranda looking over the scene shown in the photo, slapping all kinds of critters crawling on me. Lol. It was a truly enjoyable read.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my version of an idyllic pastoral poem. The biting crawly things are here, but not
in the numbers of the rest of the south, due to the cooler weather in the mountains.
