Dwell not on the millions dead,
think of just one precious life;
Maybe someone close to you
now long perished in the strife.

No one wants to give their life
for a cause, though it be just.
Think on this, as now you pay
tribute to their honored dust.
These lines moved me especially. I am anti-war but the big one is coming...a talented and well written write with meaning and insight. Kind regards and well done Meia x

Yes, we should. I pray for all that paid the price with their lives, and those that are now paying and did with their minds. I know a few soldiers that have come back and are paying with PTSD. One really struggles--last I knew he was in Colorado selling drugs on the street. I pray for him. :( Hope he is okay.

They Gave all is a wonderful tribute to all the men and women who served and gave everything. The rhyming flows nicely through. "But we oft time lose the measure"- that line says so much. Very well done, Blessings, AmyJo

They gave all that we may have
precious freedom here, this day.
We should strongly guard their cause
and nurture it, in every way.

This is a wonderful tribute to those who fought for our freedom and those who gave all. I lost an uncle in the Korean Conflict and a cousin in the Vietnam War so this is a very special poem to me.

Well done.

Blessings
Janet

Hi Jaybird, This is a lovely poem in memory of those who gave their life in war. It resonates with me as my father was one of those men. You have written with understanding and strong feeling with good abcb rhyme. Well done and as you say 'Time to reflect'. Warm regards Dorothy

We may not know their names, but their sacrifices will never be forgotten. With your poem, how can one forget. You have written a memorable one here. Keep up the great work you've been doing all your life. I love rhyming poems as well. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely tribute to all the soldiers who risk their lives for their country and are often taken for granted.
They suffer during the war and often their life never returns to normal (I'm thinking of PTSD).
Thanks for making us think of this important issue.

war is my pet haste. When we talk of hundreds of dead people we do not realise that each one of them had a family to go back to.A father ,a brother ,a wife...
I firmly believe that if not for man's freed these wars would not be there.
They die to protect someones vested interest.
Thank you for writing and sharing this
Alternate rhymes and even lines makes the poem effective.
