Excellent choise in pictures to go with the piece on Country and Western. I used to follow it when I was younger and the artists were amazing. but that was my age too. This interests me as I have not followed any one artist but enjoy the songs very much

Hi Brett; thank you for sharing this essay giving us the artists who reached almost to the top during the last decade. I'm not a connoisseur of Country music, so while I knew the names, I wasn't aware of all the facts you included about each performer.
I have started to listen to Country music a bit more since 2001, but for many years, it was taboo in my house. When I was young, my mother dragged me along to country music festivals up and down the east coast. I saw Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Jr, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty and Tammy Wynette, along with some other lesser names.
As a rock and roll snob, I turned up my nose at these offerings. I realize now that I saw some of the greats,

Growing up in the Bronx in New York, I never really got into Country music. I was a Rock girl, and an eighties girl. But I respect Country Music and I respect your great knowledge. Very well written.
