This even gets me colder than what I feeling as the temps drop to a chilly numbers over night where I reside, even if it is Spring, weather here in the Midwest USA...it has been somewhat extreme, and unpredictable...And do think what a great poem letting us know about no more skiing alone.

Thanks for sharing & hope to read more of your works...Caressa_08

Vance, this is not a tit for tat, six stars my friend, for those know me well only come deserved.
This is a beautiful prayer, or ask.
These can be so cliched, and emotion not seemed real...not this.
As soon as I read the first lines, I was hoping you carried it all the way through, and you did not disappoint.

The only thing I might look at is the last line ''with one last kiss''
I thought that may be too nice, too detract from the sincerity of all before. Its romantic and should be emotional, but not original, and I am sure if you dig deep, there may be a better alternative, for it is a fine write indeed, and has my seal. Just felt the last line, which should be the strongest, and it may look a little convenient or too nice.

Having said that, it does not detract from the beautiful flow as well sincere in its passage to the reader.

Bravo.
My best wishes.
Good write.
RG

I can feel the fear in ths poem as it is a very real experience and poetry like this is rare and like gold dust. Your experience inspired you to put pen to paper. I have been alone in the snowy mountains and it can be austere and frightening with total silence all around, I can identify with your words here. Love Dolly x

I enjoyed reading your poem "Through This Valley". You rhymed it well. If that is what happened I would take it as a warning and never try it again.
Best of luck.

Ha! I know that feeling. I, too, have been frozen in the mountains, both by the elements and by fear! This skiing anecdote of course transfers rather well to the human condition where, no matter how hard the going, one always has God at one's side. I imagine that may have been in the back of your mind, as well.

Sounds as if you had a close brush with death. Bitter weather images:
winds howl harsh
My knees are raw
From ice and stone

You definitely want that kiss to be warm.
Quite an experience.
Glad God ignored your request for one last kiss. You can live now to get warm kisses while alive. Mine included.

Fondly,
Shari

This is a wonderful poem, Vance. I see that it is in response to sports, but it is very spiritual and appropriate for any genre. Sorry I don't have a sixer for you. I hope you are doing well. Marilyn

Oh mercy, Vance. Did you get yourself involved in a precarious and deadly situation skiing alone recently? based on what you've stated in your author's notes coupled with the context of your poem, that's precisely what it sounded like to me.
However, this poem could pertain to many different types of less-than-favorable circumstances.
A heavy drinker at the bottom of the bottle or a heroin addict at the end of their rope...quite literally!
Great writing, my friend.

Thanks Dean, for this great review and this happened a long time ago when I was a bit more foolhardy and reckless. I don't ski anymore and never plan to do any hiking in the great wilderness! My challenges are all now focused on writing and so far, I've not found that quite as dangerous. All the best, dear friend! Vance

Writing may even be a bot more dangerous, Vance, lol.
You're more than welcome, my friend.

Hello Vance
Just to know you skied alone puts fear in me.
Vance the way how you wrote your poem is so impressing of how you have faith in God when you said
From prayers alone
If I should perish
Here this night
I pray dear God
To find your light

Gert

Hi Gert: this happened a long time ago when I thought I could do anything and "thinking" was apparently NOT one of those things that I had mastered with great skill. Glad that praying was! It's Always a delight hear from you. Blessings and Hugs Vance

Wow, Vance. This is an incredible poem and very touching as a prayer/poem. It is also very interesting to me that your refer to this as your last ski trip through this valley, alone; man alive, I haven't snow skied since 1979! I'm not dead yet, but in sad shape compared to the bad boy I was way back when. Still, I may do it again on a blue slope - no black or cross-country for this Gramps. Great, great , great poem. Well don, my friend. Bruce.

Thanks so much Bruce for this wonderful review and generous stars! I thought that sharing this experience could offer some perspective to those out there in "desperate" situations and I hope it does the job. I know it did for me as it was a true blessing to walk out of there alive...a bit frozen, but actually smiling! Blessings, dear friend and thanks again! Vance
