I'm happy to hear that you are in contact again. I'm glad that she opened your eyes to a new friendship and I'm sure you made a huge impact with her as well. True friends are hard to find. Sounds like she's a true friend.

Thank you. Yep, Marge is a forever friend. We lost track of one another for a while but have connected again. It's almost the same as it was all those years ago.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I enjoyed your story and thought it had a good moral. Best of luck in the contest.
The day after the new family arrived; I sat in the shade of our snowball bush reading comics while I enjoyed few moments of peace.--Suggest no semi-colon. It's a clause, comma instead.
One year Marge invited me to stay with them so I could attend a Mexican fiesta with her family. --Suggest a comma before so, your conjunction.
Take care,
Russell

Thank you. The semi-colon was a boo-boo, glad you spotted it for me. I will edit and correct. I love you reviewers who take the time to be honest and point out errors.

Liked this very much, good tender story. Then why not 5 stars? Well, the last paragraph seemed, to me, a bit stilted. Last paragraph, second sentnce, No need to say something about learning...that fact is evident as the story unfolds. The bit about hired hands needed to run the farm...not sure if that is needed. Ok l. might be way out in left field.. did like this story.

A lovely story, enhanced by your revelation that you and Marge are in contact. What a lot of catching up you must be doing. I am sure she would love to read the story, and know how much you loved her mother. With every good wish.

I enjoyed this short story. It made me think of my childhood, just brought about a sense of nostalgia regardless of when you were a kid. While I didn't grow up on a farm or exposed to people of a foreign culture, this story easily allowed me that understanding.

Oh, how well we learn as children, don't we? What a wonderful story, and I am so happy for you (your notes) that you've managed to find your old friend again. This is genuinely warm and full of nostalgic imagery - I hope it does well in the contest, as it deserves!

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. Marge and I have a lot of catching up to do. I haven't seen or heard from her since 1965.

A very well-written story about your friendship with a Mexican girl. When we make contact withbsoneine from another culture, we at first, think they are different but we quickly learn they are just human like us, but do things dfferent than we do.

Wow - a story of human interaction and communication well told with candour and cordiality - what a wonderful learning experience for a young child - to learn at first hand that we are all simply human though we do communicate through different sounds !!

Thanks for reading and the six stars. They are appreciated. It was a good learning experience as I look at all races differently now.

Good story for the contest. I relate to this myself as, although being an only child,
I wished for friends and found them most often among Mexicans as I have lived
in what are now the barrios of L.A.,and other Spanish speaking countries. I read
Spanish now and attribute that to early experience as well.

Thanks for reading and your interesting comments. I wish I had learned to speak Spanish when I had the chance. I learned a few of their words but never actually learned their language.
