Linda,

This seems a little sad, given what we now know your defunct relationship -- main dish and all. *smile* I hope your heart is reviving and looking forward to finding true love. I will be praying for you! Hugs--

Thank you for reading and commenting, Robyn. Yeah, it all went down the tubes. You can't have a relationship with someone who lies about everything. 'Side Dish' was about the prior one when it began going straight to hell! Moved out, taking a few steps back and taking some deep breaths. I will survive and be stronger than ever before. Linda

Wow, Linda - this is excellent, and too often the true circumstance for that third party... It must be incredibly hard on the self-respect, self-confidence, though 'the heart wants what the heart wants', and God is the judge, not Man...

Thank you, Dawn. After nine months, it is OVER. Got caught up with a couple of sociopaths. This hurt is huge. livelylinda

Very original and interesting metaphor. It shows great imagination. I would never have thought of something like this myself.
Thanks for sharing.

This is an excellent poem with a clear meataphor and imagery. I think we've all felt like the side dish at some point in our lives.

I didn't notice any errors or typos.

Nice work!

Aha! I was thinking food, and here it's a relationship. All I know is...never let yourself be served in faded Tupperware. Be the main dish, the pampered guest, but never the side dish! Very clever!! Blessings...

Been there...my last husband was using my credit card to buy gifts for his previous 2 wives....and secretary. He was so rich though...a pity!

Being a side dish always ends in tears! Although some sectors of the population have more than one wife, but none of the wives are truly happy! An interesting free verse, food for thought as you might say! Love Dolly x

Dolly: yes, indeed, this 'side dish' is crying now but it is over. Thank you for reading and commenting. livelylinda

Sounds like a three some relationship, and one is being more of a side dish
than main course...which is surely tactlessly rude and romantically decimating.
Hard to stay at a table like this. Not even simple 'table manners' seem to be
observed. There is a reason why 3...is always an odd number....it never fits
compatibly or complimentarily....especially in relationships.... You have
my sympathy and empathies....take care...
Best always, Ronni

Had to think about this one. The metaphor is the side dish for the third partner? I was thinking about the traditional dishes one made in honor of grandmother. But the poem really does raise sympathy for the side dish.

I liked your metaphor of someone caught in a love triangle. This is both creative and applicable. Personally, I've always liked the side dishes better than the main course...green bean casserole, anyone? But I do feel sorry for the left out side dish. Great job.
