This is a powerfully moving account of Roy and Dog...how painful to lose someone...even the animals have hearts for others. I can't imagine experiencing such tragic loss...God bless you...the picture is one to be treasured. Great write!

Oh, what a heart-breaking story - my heart
and prayers go out to you. To lose a beloved
son is tragic. Dog and Roy were kindred friends.

Dog and my son(,) Roy(,) bonded

Thnks for reading and commenting, Margaret. I need to do some research on commas. I often get confused on exactly where to use them or not.

This was an emotional story, so much joy and so much sadness. It documents a special bond between Roy and Dog. It is also a tribute to the memory of both of them. Great job, thanks and good luck in the contest.

Very touching story. Dog was indeed a special addition to your family. Dog's purpose in life seemed to be to take care of you and your son in a way even he was unaware of.

Great story. I didn't know Shepard's could herd cattle so well. I found that informative. You also did a wonderful job at telling the reader how loyal Dog was to whom he felt was leader of the pack, your son, Roy. Thank you for sharing your story and good luck in the contest.

Thank you. Yes, Shepards make great cattle dogs. It was all we used in the earlier years. Later, I had a Blue Heeler who was an even better cattle dog than the Shepards. The Heelers are smaller and faster than a larger dog.T

I am sorry for your loss. The dog is the splitting image of my Bandit, though. If you have time, go on my profile and take a look. He is a husky/German Shepard cross. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Dog was the beautiful creature, dog by name, it knew its job, waiting for the bus to receive the pal on time, guarding and watching, all but once accidentally it died, it's lovable and unforgettable; I liked and enjoyed the read.

Hi there,

This is a very sad tale on all fronts. Dogs are incredibly sensitive d=creatures that a lot of people don't understand. The bond is unique with a canine over other animals.

A very well written and affective piece.

All the best
