Bits and pieces of my life for my grandchildren

My sister has two adult boys of her own. She has been blessed with five grandchildren, but she lost her husband about nine years ago. Bitterness tinges her life, and she still smokes, despite losing both our mother and her husband to lung cancer. Every phone conversation I've had with her in the past twenty years finds me frustrated and wondering what it will take to get her into counseling.
So, this chapter will serve as a bridge from the painful early childhood to the start of my life as an adult. I joined the Army just nine days shy of my eighteenth birthday, and I truly set out to be all I could be.'
I hope you plan to turn your life story into a book, it merits it. You always facinate me, thanks so much for sharing an amazing life. love Meia x

Hi Patty, not an easy family situation to be in. I don't blame you for opting out and go into the Army. I think I would have done the same. I'm looking forward to reading on. All the best. Ulla;)))

Hi Ulla; thank you for stopping by to read and review. Yes, the Army was a wonderful choice. My brother has always wondered why I didn't ever return to New Jersey to live - maybe when he and I talk, he will finally understand,

A tragic side effect of abuse is the continuing effect it has on victims. Siblings feel they can never trust each other because of what a parent did,

Hi Thomas; thank you for your time to read and review. You are so right about the trust - we've never been able to be truly comfortable with one another.

Patty,

Obviously, I have missed some important chapters that came before this one. I am sorry that you had a rough upbringing and even more sorry that you and your siblings cannot be close. I hope writing your memoirs helps you discover what went wrong and helps you in some wonderful way. Good luck!

Hi Robyn; thank you for stopping by to read and review. This is chapter five of the book, and I'm getting a great sense of relief by writing these stories, and if nothing else, having the chance to talk to my brother about the events, makes it all worthwhile,

An interesting look at how members of a dysfunctional family deal with their pain.

It is good that at least your brother is willing to make time to meet up, as for your sister, her pain must go deeper than she will ever say

Hi Freda; thank you for your time to read and review. I'm looking forward to spending time with my brother as we address these issues that have been unexplored for almost fifty years.

Dear patty, I'll bet this chapter was hard to write too. It sounds like me and my brother and sister, for three years my sister hasn't spoken to me, she treated me like dirt my whole life, and my brother followed suit. I haven't spoken to him since the 1990s, and I have seen either of them since the 1980s and 1990s. Excellent writing. Dove

Hi dove; thank you for reading, reviewing and granting me the EXCEPTIONAL rating. I'm sorry to hear that your life was similar to mine - its hard to hear others talk about the comradery they share with their siblings. That's something you and I will never experience.

We all do what we must do to survive this world. No one has a level playing field. Every time I hit a difficult period I think of it as a test and I try to ace it. LOL We can't pick our family only our friends. God expects us to love one another. That is rule #2. Sometimes that's hard to do.
Rule #1 is to love Him. It makes rule #2 easier. Good story Patty. Nancy

Hi Nancy; I enjoyed your explanation of 'the rules.' Yes, everything is easier if we will just follow Rule #1. I appreciate your time to read and review,

Wow, what a huge step in sharing the beginning/previous chapters with your brother and sister...that took a lot of courage! Good descriptive words in this chapter.
Blessings, AmyJo

Hi AmyJo; thank you so much for your time to read and review. It was a big deal for me to share the chapters with my siblings. I'm really not all that surprised in the reactions I got - but, I'm very excited to get the chance to sit down and talk it all out with my brother!

No errors noticed. Writing was clear and punctuation appeared accurate. Your truth is your truth and it is difficult to judge biographical material any way but for grammar and structure of sentences.

Very well written, Patty. It doesn't surprise me your siblings each had different reactions. They are two different people after all. Just remember Patty, you are the one who has persevered. You have pulled yourself up and accomplished things that others only dream of. You made a better life for you and your family. That's worth something. Don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise.
