Oh, winter! As I read, I 'felt' the chill in the air. Lol! Nice descriptions and atmosphere in this as well as good dialogue that helps show instead of tell. I would suggest maybe putting spaces in between some of your sentences. ? So close makes it harder to read...all in all great entry. :)

Once I got past the way the writing was set up, I was able to enjoy reading this story. It peaked my interest and left me wanting more. I hope you will continue building it up.

You hooked me from the start with the eerie setting and mystery.
Lot's of questions and suspense as I could certainly get a feel of something amiss.
A terrific pace and descriptions.
Wonderful dialogue.
"Why would La Marquise exchange the warmth of southern France for a cold inn deep in the heart of the snowy English countryside. And within earshot of Briarly Hall. And who was her companion male traveller?"
Herein lies the tale.
