It must be devastating to lose everything but as you say his life and memories are still intact. This is a lovely quote from Ray that you've used for this Sapphonic Triad Kim about your neighbour's loss. It sounds like a very stressful time, and hopefully the trees around didn't all light up as well. Stay safe,
cheers,
valda

    Hi valda,

Just a few of the trees, so we are safe now. It is basically a stand of trees that is between my house and where theirs was. It was a tenuous time, for sure. Thank you for the wonderful comments.

How awful for your neighbors! It is such a loss, but as the words of your Sapphonic Triad point out - he has his life and the ability to rebuild. Sending prayers to all of you,
~patty~

Losing a home is like losing one's memory, the hands that built it bleed and the years are blurred. Well spoken, and if memory serves, the modified Sapphonic Triad is in the spirit of the form. Fivers.

"The Loss of Art" is a poem to be well remembered as the scary sad day relives.
You have portrayed he tale of the fire so very well. All your feelings surely becomes aware. Well done, Kim.

    Hi Marie,

The fire at 17 mile Chena Hot Springs on Tuesday was my next door neighbor's home. (We share a driveway.) A tough week. Thank you for the thoughtful comments.

Good Afternoon, Kim,

Again, thank you for finding my couplet useful to you and for using it in this poem. I am both humbled and honored.

The digital artwork shook me as I focused on it. The skeleton of the house yet visible within the angry flames. A homeowner's worst fears realized.

Your poem is beautiful. I'm not familiar with the poetic form, so I've no expertise with which to critique it; however, I can tell you that I was deeply touched. I found the last stanza particularly strong and reassuring. Yes, to be alive and able to still create beauty.

I do have one small suggestion. In the first line of the last stanza you mention 'their possessions, but in line 2 you mention 'his life.' I'm reading this as a plural/singular conflict. Shouldn't it be 'their lives' ?

Ray

    Hi Ray,

Thank you once again for that amazing couplet. If you'd like to tell me your last name (maybe a PM?) I'll change the attribution to your first and last name. I appreciate the wonderful comments and the inspiration.

Randy was home alone. His wife and the youngest son that still lives at home were both out of town. So, while it was only his life that was threatened, they all lost their possessions.

I plan to do a prose piece to explain things in more depth, including the helplessness at having nothing we tried to save the home go right and the helplessness of watching it burn. As you said, that was an angry fire consuming that home.

I appreciate all of the thoughtful comments. A Sapphonic Triad should actually have the quote, the quatrain of four syllable lines and the tercet. I modified this one by adding two additional stanzas.

I'm so sorry for your neighbor's loss and consequently, yours, too. It's traumatic to see any sort of tragedy. I'm glad he/they are alright despite the property loss. I've not tried a triad yet, but it looks very interesting. Perhaps when the challenge is finished I'll be able to focus on new things. Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn,

I do love the Sapphonic Triad form. So much so that one starts forming in my head whenever I see a quote that I enjoy lol Thank you for all of your thoughtful comments.

This is so sad but so beautifully written. It just wrenched my heart. Filled with emotion and strength. I hope that you are not in danger! Best of luck.

    Hi frogbook,

The danger is past us now but their home is in ashes. I've never felt so helpless in my life. Thank you for the thoughtful comments.

Oh, I really like this Sapphonic Triad, Kim! It was meant for you to find Ray's quote first thing this morning. What a shame about your neighbour's home. A very sad thing for them and for you to witness as well. Do you know what caused the fire?

Creativity can come in soOO many forms. It doesn't just have to be involved with painting, music or writing. The architect uses his mind and skills in bringing into fruition his own work of art with the style of building that he creates.

Your Sapphonic Triad about the loss of art is very well written. I love that you quoted a fellow Fanstorian. :) Yes, the artist lives to create again, and again ... and again. - - Connie

    Hi Connie,

Not only did Randy build the house himself over the course of many years, he's also an artist. All of his paintings were lost in the fire with their possessions. This is more of a purge piece. The fire is still smoldering. I will most likely do a prose piece just to work the situation out of my system. I'll be driving past it every day, we share a driveway. I have never felt so helpless in all my life. Thank you for the thoughtful comments.

It must be just terrible to lose everything in a fire. I can't imagine. Our homes are our safe haven ... our sanctuary. To lose that must be just awful! Family photo albums, his paintings ... these things cannot be replaced. At least there was no loss of life. That is the main thing, and they can be thankful for that.

I look forward to reading your next piece about this, Kim.

Excellent work with this modified Sapphonic triad. How fortunate you found the perfect quote to use with this. How sad to lose everything but getting out alive is what really matters. Excellent poem, strong emotion looking at the actual fire. I am so pleased your neighbor was not hurt. This is another wonderful addition to your book.

Very interesting piece and I truly love the way you added the extra to create a story line at the same time. All makes sense and yet sends a message.

    Hi Barb,

Thank you for the kind comments. I just needed to get some thoughts out at the time. I think I'll likely write a prose piece just to get it all out.
