When the Chernobyl reactor exploded, pieces of burning metal went in the air, causing fires where they landed. Due to the poisonous radiation, the Chernobyl site was declared a permanent no-go zone.
To enter the city today, visitors must go through security checks and have proper authorization and a tour guide.
Greenpeace has estimated that a total of 100,000 to 400,000 people in total could die of health issues directly caused by the accident at Chernobyl.
That's staggering.
Great topic, perfect syllable count and a well-known disaster.
Best of luck to you!

Yes it is. Pripyat is an abandoned city now.Thank you very much. After all that a nuclear plant was built and commissioned recently in our state. People protested, tried to block but who listens?

Way! How beautiful with such fine poetry in so few syllables. It's a skill to write in so few. The picture reminds me of the Golconda fort of Hyderabad. It stands as a marvel of then Nizam's . Really a great piece of work. Have a great day. Namaskaram

Sounds like a winner to me. Unpleasant to be reminded of tragic events, but fact is, we need to be reminded in the attempt to prevent another one. Good luck with this.

Resonating words just like the incident, a tragic act and it may happen again. Do we ever learn from such terrible times? I wish you luck with the contest, love Dolly x

A very well-written 9-1-1 poem. Indeed a sad story hangs over this town, everything seems just to be left by the occupants, without any means of return at any time, a ghost town.

Thank you very much.yes Pripyat is just a ghost town , even the wind blowing through it makes people shudder in case of remnant radiation.

Very well conceived and composed expression of an existential theme. The image renders the subject exquisitely. Good luck in the contest.

I ate a lot of Glowing Chicken Kiev that year. An excellent contest entry. I've never read a poem about the tragedy at Chernobyl before.

Hi there,

I think you might want to take a look at the formatting on this one. It is showing as 8/1/1/1 and the minute and in this structure it doesn't meet the competition requirements. I think the picture is shoving the sentence over to put sighs on a line of its own. You can rectify this by placing the entire piece under the picture.

All the best

Thank you I dont know how to do that .I typed it as usual but it came like this. may be I will take off the picture.

Just add enough empty lines before the first line of dialogue using the return key to place it under.

Hello there,

Somehow this has posted under the fiction setting instead of General Poetry, Try messaging Tom and the team to see if they can sort it out for you.

Otherwise, a good entry to the contest. I wish you luck.
