This is interesting and thoughtful writing and supports fully the notion that the bible is the best book, ever. Your choice of verses to support your ideas were excellent and you have made you argument in an eloquent and persuasive manner. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that it is well written. I can't really say much more than that because I am not a Christian and you may get upset. I used to be but what they did was not compassion in my eyes.
Good article!

I am VERY upset! I know where you live and....just kidding. :) Sorry you've been disappointed in Christians. I'm sure I've let people down far too often. I've never once been disappointed in Jesus though and I won't let my failures or anyone else's keep me from reading about Him in His book! Who else ever loved me like Him? God bless you, Dennis

'An Example of Writing' is very interesting.
Very true statement: 'The Bible is an amazing book for many reasons, not the least of which is its composition.
Great artwork: The image shown supports the writing. I love the quote, even though I can't see the last part. I read enough of it to know that it's a true statement.
Thanks for sharing.
Good luck with your future writing!

Superb commentary on God's Word! This was an absolute joy to read! Also, a great ending emphasis relating to the worlds current state! His Word shall remain forever! Blessings, AmyJo

Interesting, and I think you're right. Parts of the Bible can be read as literature. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, wasn't it? The NT was largely in Greek, but in both cases, the meaning depends heavily on the translations. And they do differ, but not enough to matter much.

Hi Phyllis, hope you're doing well. There was a Greek translation of the OT: here's a few facts regarding it:The Septuagint is the Greek translation of the Old Testament. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. It was during the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus (285-246 B.C.) That the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible, were translated into Greek. Shortly afterwards the rest of the Old Testament was also translated. This translation was done by approximately 70 translators. Hence, the Septuagint is known by the letters LXX, the Roman numerals for seventy.

    Thanks for reviewing...God bless, Dennis

Hi there,

There is no doubt about the veracity of the words held within the Bible, and indeed some other religious texts. One thing I've always puzzled over though, is the interpretative aspect of the word. You can go into four or five different churches and hear a sermon on the same passage being interpreted so many different ways.

Now one could argue that this is the beauty of the word and the writing or that a somewhat built in ambiguity is a bit of a downfall.

There are also chunks which are contradictory and not too pleasant.

This is the word, and the word is truth, so is all true or simply misinterpretation by man? The philosophical debates can rage for many lifetimes.

This piece however is well written and your commentary on such likewise.

All the best

Thanks for reading and your kind remarks. One thing which has helped me in understanding the Bible, is to note that over all it is progressive in its disclosure of truth. I believe it all fits together and seeming contradictions are dispelled my further information. The old saying, "If duct tape won't fix it, you don't have enough duct tape!" is also true of the Bible.

A factor in misunderstanding is the failure to note God has appointed certain key men to know His word and explain it to others. So many ignore this simple truth...God uses teachers, just as every other discipline.

Not to be ignored is the biblical revelation of evil actively engaged against God, seeking to cause misunderstanding of God's word and actually engaged in spiritual battle against truth which glorifies God. For His own purposes, God allows evil to exist, but He has promised a day when righteousness will rule the earth and sin, evil and death will forever be vanquished. This is a book worth reading! God bless you my friend, Dennis

I read the bible every day, and after reading it four times last year, I still learn new things every time I read the bible again (I am on pace to read the bible 6 times this year). My wife and I are also reading the bible this year with our 5 children and should be able to finish it once by the time the year is over. In these troubling times the bible can give us so much hope. Great writing.

A great quote on the picture and how very true. Far too often we complain rather than use the tools available to us to make our lives better. Well written, my friend~Debbie

I'm sure for many, God's words speak directly through the Bible to them.
Although agnostic I totally agree that great writing not only draws the reader in and improves their skill.
I did TRY to read the Bible once...and to my surprise thoroughly enjoyed the first seven days at the beginning when God got busy with all the creativeness (I'm arty crafty myself LOL)...then I got to all that begatting a bit further along and got mighty confoosed. I had to put it down.

I may well have another go one of these days after reading your post. When we look back at the moments that change our lives, I'm sure for many it is a spiritual or close to it experience that has them taking a good hard look at themselves and perhaps changing their path.

I'm currently taking a different path in life, not a religious one, but one with meaning as I am helping others to hopefully achieve their goals with their own self belief.

I've done it and figure if it inspires at least 10 others, then they might do the same and so on.

I'll be happy if that dream comes to fruition...but I'm always on the lookout for new ones in whatever form they appear.

WATCH THIS SPACE

Cheers
P

Absolutely true I also believe this to be true. It's like a happy little child being told, "You are going to be entering first grade this year."

I hope you will give the bible another go...perhaps you might try a modern paraphrase like "The Message" to get you off to a fast start. I suggest the New Testament and particularly the Gospel of John. LOL about the "begats"...they sure can slow one down. They are in there because genealogies were tremendously important to Jewish scholars...particularly in relation to the Messiah.
