I know .Even before i read your notes I sensed the duality in feelings .i can easily relate to it for I too have the same kind of mixed feelings about my mother whom I am looking after now. but I have come to the conclusion that many such mothers were not great because they were unhappy or just weak.
i liked this verse very much .it is a very good tribute to motherhood. and i liked the line "their hearts have a dimple...

thank you so much for stopping by to read and review. I appreciate your comments - the duality of loving your mother isn't always easy to accept. I'm glad you liked that line - I loved the turn of phrase,

I definitely can relate to the mixed feelings. I mostly had bad ones with my mother, except for the last year before she died. By then she had lost her mind and couldn't remember she hated me...so???

Good work on matching the requirements asked of the form.

Hi Marla; I had you and a few others here on FanStory when I wrote this. I have learned a great deal about others as I've posted stories about my childhood - I'm sure you have, too. The subject of mothers seems to resonate with a lot of us. Thank you for your time to read and review - I appreciate it,

Hi,
Yes, not everyone has a perfect relationship with their mothers, a few may even have received little love as they grew. I grew up having mixed feelings about my mother, but today I think I understand her more. I am not very attached to people, and I don't think I can say there unconditional love between us, even though she likes to say there is.
Your poem has a good flow and rhyming. The message comes across.

Your feelings being conflicted came through strongly in the words to the poem. As a mother of five children, I know I have made some mistakes I dearly wish I could go back and change, but I am lucky that I have a good relationship with all of my adult children. Some mothers do not ever deserve to receive their children's unconditional love, but I do believe it leaves an emptiness inside any child who does not receive that unconditional love from their mother or their father.
A thought-provliking piece. I didn't find anything to correct.

It is a rather sad thought that introduces ambivalence about the one who chose to birth us instead of not; and certainly hard on the heart. Aside from another unusual form the sorrow you feel does come through. You challenge yourself in many ways and I thank you for introducing such a variety of forms.
Smiles and blessings.

thank you so much for continuing to read the poems I posted this week. With each new poetic form comes a thought I want to express. Mother's Day is better for me now - I celebrate my motherhood and that of my daughter. My mom passed away almost twenty years ago, and while I forgive the tragic mistakes she made, I can't forget,

You've done the Memento form quite well
in syllables and rhymes
Everyone has different experiences and relationships with parents
as you indicate in the author notes
Sometimes there are things, unknown to us, that influence behavior
An excellent poem and photograph
That's quite a group of birch logs
with Christmas candles in the background
I used the make those as a kid
Nicely done

thank you so much for stopping by to read and review. This poetic form was a challenge, but the duality of the material itself was the tricky part,

I think here we have a different Mother's day, yet, the importance is as meant, and always glad to see one honoring the mothers.
I have never seen this form, so good to keep learning.
My best wishes.

Hi again, yes this was yet another form I picked up. I also have a book of standard poetic forms from the masters, and I will be starting to work with them soon. Thank you for your continued support,

Remember, it is not the form itself that will increase your skill if no challenge to write them, it is the practice of mind with the different variations, the building of words, most importantly expression of your theme.
Good the excersise, and always worth trying new forms, for it gives flexibility.

    Good luck.
    My best wishes.

OOOooo. Yes, very cutting edge and so true. No one is all treacle, LOL! And a lot, unfortunately, are zero treacle. (My favorite healing phrase - We are all in a state of becoming. That gives us and the offenders a chance to grow and change.) This Memento poem is well written and flows well. Great job!

Love with dimples was a quite a descriptor when talking about mothers who weren't quite perfect. I liked that. While it isn't your everyday Mother's day poem I found your truthful words interesting.
