The picture is beautiful, the words are beautiful and I firmly believe the poet is beautiful too!! This does ring of subtle emotion, as if some of it has been deliberately held back... but even so, I love it!!

    Hi Alf,

    I was trying a new style of poetry and decided that I really enjoyed that rhyme scheme. I'm sure I will use it again soon (poetry potlatch tomorrow will be in the Nove Otto form) I just had a bit of trouble encapsulating it all into nine lines lol My poems are usually longer. Thanks for all of the wonderful compliments.

from my soul I bleed blue and gold.
I will dance 'neath Aurora's lights
brave bears and bitter winter nights;

I have seen Aurora's lght. You do an excellent job o describing them in this terrific poem.

thank you for sharing your ekphrastic poem based on your life in Alaska. I appreciated your author's notes along with the piece because it gave me more insight into you and your personality. I liked the imagery you gave us with the words of the poem. It flows nice and paints you as the girl with the golden heart,

I read this, guessed that the challenge was a nove otto (nine eight in Italian?)
and tried to write one. Which makes me admire your work even more. Excellent.

    Hi LIJ:

    Nine eight... in Italian... not that I speak Italian, but I think I should have caught on to that lol I'm glad you enjoyed this one. :) I actually really enjoyed this rhyme scheme, although his sense of alphabet is a bit off... acbd lol Thanks for the lovely compliment in this review.

Ah, I do respect people who can live in such conditions and yet have hearts of gold and help each other survive the harsh winters. Well delivered message in this challenging poetic form!

Hi Kim. From reading your author notes, I think it takes a hearty breed of people to live in Alaska. Sounds like you are a tight-knit community, and that is soOO great! I know what it is like to go and use an outhouse in the Winter time (used to do that at the cottage), but I've never done it when the temperature dips around -40C and worse. LOL ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it or use duct tape. Ha! Maybe that's because with the lower population plumbers and mechanics are few and far between? :) The dog mushing sounds like great fun!

Your poem is lovely! I especially love "Soft skin, with blush of Sitka Rose". Great choice of artwork to accompany this piece. You captured the heart of an Alaskan girl in your very well written poem. Very nice, Kim! I loved your author notes too! -- Connie

    Hi Connie,

    I am so glad you enjoyed this selection. What wonderful smiles you've bestowed at reading your fun and enthusiastic comments. We have plumbers and mechanics, but Alaskans are pretty independent and tend to like to fix things themselves (if they can lol) We have a lot of 'jack of all trades and masters of none' sorts up here ;)

    Thanks for this beautiful response. I'm happy that the poem has evoked such a rewarding commentary.

I love this, and the lovely story within it AND your beautiful notes!! I've always wanted to live in Alaska...cabin with no water...right up my husbands alley. Fairbanks sounds beautiful. Love the 'blush of sitka rose.' Blessings....
