The art work is great
for the words written
When we read a poem
we all have our different
ways to analyse a poem
as a human being we can
see different meanings within a poem
"Ten minute slot, I must prolong;
five poems picked, in rhyme.
If I read slow
will my lines flow?
Five poems picked, in rhyme."
Great writing.

If you think I was dizzy reading the rules to the previous poem, I had to sit down and close my eyes to maintain my balance after reading the ones for the Roundabout. I have read this style before and like it but if I were quizzed on the rules after reading it, I would fail miserably. I find reading the poems out loud helps immensely. Very nice work with this one and I can say I enjoyed it very much. Congratulations on your first public reading of your poems. It sounds like you did a great job and I agree with the woman that thinks writing 30 poems in one month is insanity at its worst. I would be a babbling idiot after the first day, let alone a full month. Again, a great job with this one.

This was such a fun event! I had to come home and write about it. I actually used a picture from it in my write today. Thank you for the wonderful comments. I actually don't think I'll be quick to write another Roundabout anytime soon lol It isn't one of my favorite styles. Thank you for taking time to catch up on all these selections. That is absolutely priceless.

Reading, writing and talking poetry can consume a lot of time. It's probably best to allot quality time to poetry like other hobbies knitting, bowling, painting. The topic is relatable to readers. Well thought out and nicely written. Great author notes too. Have a nice week :)

Good on you Kim, and well done with your poetry readings and it worked out well for you to share this with us for this week's topic. In our writing group a couple of the poets always write rhyme it is just natural for them, you to by the sounds of it.
cheers,
valda

    Hi Valda,

It is easier for me to write in rhyme (even with differing rhyme schemes) than it ever is for me to write free verse. I'm not sure why, but I'd rather agonize over a rhyme scheme than let my thoughts fly free lol That (to me) is intimidating! Thanks for the fantastic comments. I was happy that the topic this week worked in my favor.

Poem about reading poetry for a group of people. Your artwork works well with the poem. This poem flows well. Kudos for doing this type of thing. Thank you for sharing this piece of poetry.

Hi Kim. Congratulations on being asked to read as well has having your poem published. Reading aloud to an audience is nerve wracking and requires prep--which you did by calculating the time in a structured manner. I've read in poetry slams before. They tend to be off the cuff and lots of fun, although most people prepare ahead of time. I enjoyed reading your Roundabout and when the challenge is over with, I want to give the form a try. Woo-Hoo!! What an honor to be invited to do a poetry reading at Barnes and Noble! Wow! Congrats, Kim! That is great news!! I am so pleased for you!!

I would have been shaking in my boots. You went about your preparation for it in a most logical way. To record yourself reading and to know, ahead of time, exactly what to read in order to fill the 10 minute time slot. Smart!

"Is there a chime? A clocking crime?" .... LOL ... it's funny, but true! At Poetry SLAMS if you go over your allotted time, you're toast!

I find it interesting that you say yours was the only poetry that rhymed. I myself prefer rhymed poetry best. I've attended a few poetry SLAMS as an audience member, and once as a judge at a SLAM. That was really fun. Mostly young college-aged kids were participating. What was amazing to me was that their 3 minute slots were filled with MEMORIZED works. And they each had about 3 poems memorized. Holy Crow! That's a ton to memorize.

Your theme lent itself well to the Roundabout format. Great job on this poem, Kim!

Firstly, congrats on the great success at the poetry reading. How many fellow Fanstorians would love to have that opportunity? (Sadly, not me. I've heard my own speaking voice. Now if someone else could read it...)

You've described very well the process of preparing for this event. Such thorough preparation no doubt was a large part of the success.

Well done Kim!
Craig

That's so true that timing is so critical to get the full impact of a poem read aloud. I enjoyed the thoughtful analysis in verse, challenging the reader to do the same.
