Cute story. I've had dogs rip those treat-holding balls open to get inside, lol. Yours seems easier to get to. Nice work!
The Mistress was in the kitchen and she filled her water glass. --Suggest a comma before and because you have two independent clause on both sides of the conjunction.
Take care,
Russell

Patty, I really enjoy doggie stories. Especially this one where Howie moved to the pillow, but with keen ears he hears those treats going into the snack ball. It is amazing what dogs will attach themselves to. I miss my little dog so much, but, I'm in a place now where there is not a place for another to roam with me and not be on a leash. Great story Patty that I had fun reading,,,,,,,Jim

Patty I miss my "Little Girl"! We lived in a huge apartment complex and she was able to roam ahead of me. She never was more then 30 feet in front of me. She was a sniffer, in and out of the bushes. I still can see her today doing this. it will 4 years in July since she died. Unbelievable heartache.

Hi Patty,
What about Bernie
If one gets a ball the other should too
That isn't fair showing favorites and could result in a fight.
If you had two kids and gave one candy and the other nothing would that be right?
It would be hurtful to the one that didn't get any. The same with dogs they have feelings too. They show them quite clearly if the person is aware enough to see them.
Get ole Bernie a snack ball too. Your setting them and your self up for a major problem. Why take the chance, stop it before it has an opportunity to occur.
Best regards,
Kirk

Hi Kirk; Bernie does have a snack ball, but he's afraid of it. Howie is so intrigued with his, but Bernie would rather wait for me to give him his treats. While Howie is busy with the ball, Bernie makes himself happy by stealing the pillow or chewing on the other favorite toys,

Hi Patty,
you might try rubbing raw hamburger or his favorite treat all over it and give it to him where he won't be bothered by Howie or maybe while Howie has his
and put his favorite treat inside and make it really easy for him to get them out. You do that about 5-10 times and I'd bet he'll grow to love it.
Best regards,

Patty, I immensely enjoyed reading this story. I like that you wrote if from the dog's perspective.
Although you did not mentioned in the opening paragraph that Howie was a dog, the reader immediately has an understanding that Howie is a dog simply by your word choice.
Thank you for sharing.

Good morning, Patty
I have two small dogs (along with two cats) so the behavior you described I witness daily. You allow one to experience the dogs' behavior and their take on life. Loved the snack ball...got to get one.
Observations:
I noticed you like to use short sentences which is fine but it does affect the flow to a degree...maybe making some longer.
Possible nits:
Stretching his front legs (out in front of him may be redundant), Howie settled down for a nap.
The TV was on one of those court shows Had to pause Maybe...On the TV was on one of those court shows?
Enjoyed!
Take care and stay safe,
Ray

Hi Ray; thank you for stopping by to read and review. I like your suggestions and will incorporate them into the story. I do tend to make my sentences short - probably because I've been told so often that I tend to run on.

Watching animals and little children as they play is a delight for us all. I do not own a pet, but if I did it would be a cat. I am not real steady on my feet so it could be dangerous for me to have a pet than might get under my feet and trip me. Patricia

This is another great story and my dog loves his snack ball as well lol. Just a few pointers,
'Howie (laid) curled up in the blanket on the couch. His nose {was} buried under a flap of the blanket [because he was a bit put out]. (lay,) {delete} [. The blanket rose every so often as he sighed or huffed.]
