Hi,
I felt like I was watching an episode of I'm Celebrity, get me out of here. I could not eat insects. Sometimes I'm even afraid of them :)
The dialogue feels very natural and it made me smile in parts. I hope Koko ad her child will be safe and she'll reunite with her husband.

Thank you for the honest review! I know it sounds creepy, but it is part of survival training. You should read some of Feral from Malanda's work. He's got some really gross recipes.

I appreciate your time and review,
    Rhonda

Oh, it just reminded me of the show. I often write about creepy stuff. In one of my first versions of the Yegons, one of my characters lived locked in a dark loft, abused constantly, and when he ran to the forest and lived there, he ate insects.

Excellent. I continue to find this story interesting and unique. I'm enjoying each and every chapter. I would find it kind of hard to eat insects, though. LOL

Right, I don't imagine having to do it, either, but survival is survival!
    Thanks for the review,

Another great chapter, Rhonda! (and just the right "digestible" length!). The picture gave me an inkling of what was for supper. Perhaps you could add a little about the flavor? When I was very young I had tasted fire-roasted grasshoppers/crickets and to this day, I remember how crispy and metallic tasting they were. I haven't had more since!

I will ask Fez about the flavor. I have never tried one myself!
Thanks for the review and comments.

Excellent writing. I was drawn to your picture that accompanied your post. My birth sign is Scorpio so naturally, I am attracted to any picture of a scorpion.

Rhonda, your chapters, your stories always intrigue me. They keep me reading to the very end and into your very informative author's note. This chapter puts forth the intelligent aspect of Sani. I enjoy his renderings of life and situations of life. I believe he has Archie's attention about all things possible.

The conversation while dining on insects was quite evotive. The thoughts in each mind were of course different especially Ayala's. I'm still hoping that somewhere in the future, they both fall in love with each other. I believe Archie is having feelings for that quite haven't shown up yet. Ayala, I feel is looking at him in a much different light since this journey began. I also hope that Todd and Koko are reunited again, especially with her having a baby.

So my friend, with all of this being said, this is such an exceptional story of hope, promise and determination of these four people. Very well written Rhonda.

Take my friend as I look forward to the next chapter.

Your friend always,

Jim

ps; when I was in China in '10, I had eaten fried butterfly cocoons. Quite different but also quite tasty. Most people of our culture thinks that I am crazy. I haven't told them the other things I have eaten while spending a month over there!!!

Thank you for the six stars, Jim!!
Thank you for the wonderful support and comments. You are right on the money on all of it, so I can tell you carefully read the story.

Cool about your experiences in China. I try to be open minded about trying new things, but I don't know if I could do the crickets. haha.

    Take care, my dear friend,
    Rhonda

Another fine chapter, Rhonda--all this talk about insects is making me hungry--I think I'll go craw under the house and find assorted grubs, fry 'em up in a little butter, and PORK!

We're learning more about the ladies as they start to trust Archie and begin a bond.
Archie is starting to see his father in Sani, even though he has his doubts about the tommyknockers.
Great chapter that sets the suspense for when they arrive at the camp.
Michael

"..They probably figured where were heading when we didn't go to the authorities." ~ where WE were...?
I continue to enjoy this story and it gets
more engulfing each time around. Well done.
