Memoir is my favorite form of writing to read. I look forward to reading your story, it sounds like it has a happy ending, contentment is a great place to be. How wonderful your mother was able to express in writing that she was proud of you.

I for one would read thus project. I was looking the other day at writing prompts and they suggested writing about what you know. Certainly a biography is something you know better than anyone.

This works very well as a prologue. It gives good indicators as to what the book will entail and the areas it will touch upon.

Like you, Patty, I am constantly surrounded by books and dogs nestled close by.
Unlike you, however, I have no spouse who loves me.
Your childhood does not have to make you into the person you are today.
If you had a horrific childhood with a great deal of trauma, you can still rise above all that and become a success.
On the same token, there are some people who led a perfect childhood but still grew to become selfish, egotistical, very vile human beings.
WE decide how we choose to act and how we wish to treat others.
No One, not even God Himself, can make those kinds of decisions for us.
I live by this mantra:
"If I am not fortunate enough to be blessed myself, at least I can do my very best to be a blessing to others."
Good luck with your latest project.

Mustangpatty, you are obviously a very strong woman to have come through and overcome your early years. It sounds like it will be an interesting project for you, to go back to your great-grandparents resettlement. Good luck with it.
