Hi Poet,
It is clear that you have an affinity for Harry Chapin and are deeply connected to his music. I like the way you separated the Whitney and the Ode, two poems becoming one. This is an excellent bio piece and I appreciated all of your author notes. Thanks for sharing your conviction and your knowledge. Cats in the Cradle is my favorite song of his.
Good luck in the contest!

I am sure that most of us who write and do so consistently, were influenced to follow our calling by someone who doing the exact same thing. The truth that they espoused rang a bell within us and we were hooked, no looking back. I am aware of some of the works who's titles you mentioned. I am likewise impressed with the strength and depth of his commitment. Good work.

Well. I did not know he had a poetry book. I LOVED his music, especially 'Taxi.' I can't find my 'Chapin' CD...and I do hope I didn't lend it out, was looking last week for it. I love your poem, your tribute, to this great artist! Good luck, blessings...

Excellent. I liked Chapin but never considered him a "major" artist. Oh, If I were you I would look at the circumstances of his death. Looks like a "hit" to me. You don't try to be overly poetic and that's what make this effective.
Thanks

I am not familiar with Chapin but he sounds like a very humble man with a big heart.
This said, we all have that music idol that moves us... mine is Freddie Mercury... don't know why exactly but he instilled determination to succeed in me.
This poem is beautifully written and about what sounds like a very special man.
Well done and thank you for sharing!!

I also loved and still love Harry Chapin!! I loved 'Taxi' especially the sequel to it, and I cried and use 'Cat's in the Cradle', to write to.
Thank you, for sharing this and explaining about him. Cool that you met him, and awesome that you left your abusive husband--no one needs that.
One error: Most of his songs are (need to use past tense--were?) written in rhyme, and I loved his phrasing.
TC and keep listening to him.
