Lol very cute, Patty. I guess writing about it is better than taking it out on the poor dog. I have an English Bull dog the only time she runs is to her food bowl at meal time. For the longest time we didn't think she could bark until a stranger pulled in the drive. Excellent job.

Thank you so much for your time to read and review. Bernie and Howie are a constant source of material. And then there are the days they lay around like cats in dog suits!

Patty, this is a good little story on Howie's loyal and protective antics and behavior. A very well written story with some great descriptive scenes. I do love your description of - ...the glowing screen - very clever. I really enjoyed reading this piece and smiled at the end of it. Thank you. ~DD

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I appreciate your comments and encouragement. Bernie is still recuperating, and the vase is dead. Its okay because my hubby said it was ugly anyway.

Patty,
Your story left me with a smile on my face. Thank you.
I got a laugh out of these sentences: At least not usually. Stupid rules! Falling into a doggy snooze, Bernie let his body relax (so cute). His little whip of a tail didn't move, but his face twitched in his sleep (:)). Quiet little barks came from his mouth, and the Mistress began to smile. She kept on with her work at the glowing screen and made sure she didn't kick the sleeping heap of gray at her feet. He slunk under the couch and waited for the Mistress to get over her anger.

Patty,
I love animal stories. Heck, I love animals. This is a cute story about a sweet pup.
We have two cats that can get into trouble sometimes, just like Bernie. The atmosphere is full of vivid and delightful descriptions. The story line flowed well.
It's a very clean piece. I saw no typos or SPAG.
You wrote this one very well.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Love you,
Oatmeal

Oh no, poor baby, he didn't mean to do it! I guess you'll have to get out the vacuum cleaner to make sure you get all the tiny shreds of glass picked up. You can see I've been through this kind of thing before. I'm guessing he'll be forgiven before too long - I can never stay mad at them :))

thank you for stopping by to read and review. Bernie is still recuperating from his adventure, and he spent most of the day in bed under the covers. Your generous review was welcomed by all,

This had me smiling and laughing all the way through! And I love that you have Bernie referring to you as "Mistress". But I can't help but wonder, why are you so harsh when speaking to Alexa, LOL? What did she ever do other than play your music and order you things?
And I'm so sorry for the loss of the vase. I hope it wasn't sentimental.

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. My relationship with Alexa is funny. Unless, I speak to her in my Mistress voice, she doesn't respond. LOL. The vase wasn't a big deal. In fact, my hubby thought it was ugly.

Pets are just such great, loving companions aren't they? You reached into Bernie's soul and your heart and plucked out the words of love you hold for him. You channeled your anger really well too! The world would be a better place if everybody could write through their feelings like you did instead of acting impulsively. Lots of life's lessons tucked away in your words. Thanks for sharing.

Aw, poor Bernie.
I love watching my dogs dream. I sometimes Pat them and tell them "it's okay," but mostly I just let them dream.
Your description was dead on, a real piece of artistry.

I enjoyed the way you got inside Bernie's head and figured out what he was dreaming.
The change in POV bothered me a little, but I haven't a clue how else you could have written it.
I felt bad for Bernie. He's so cute and I could picture him slinking under the couch.
Thanks for sharing your story.

Poor Bernie he tried his best when your feet slip all types of mishaps happen. Hope he didn't get into too much trouble, but was only being a guard dog. Sincerely Mabaker
